Question for the massess

Ok so i dropped my car off last night for the 30,000 miles service. I got a call this morning explaining what they beleive they should fix along with that. I knew my brakes were low thus the shimmy. Being im way over the waranty on the rotors, its going to cost me $440 for them. Also they recommended the microfillment cleaner? and flushing of the injectors. All together the cost is going to be 1200 bucks.

Now of course i'm getting the service done. But should i get the brakes done there are someplace else which could be cheaper? I'll probably pass on the micro thing, but get the injectors. Any suggestions?

DO the brakes yourself, they are ripping you off. As far as the microfillement I have no idea.

Major rip-offs

30K miles service ? It's unneeded ! They only inspect most of the stuffs with a flashlight. If your brakes shimmy, then just ask for a brake job with rotors re-surfaced. I usually do brake jobs @a trusted mechanic using only OEM pads. He re-surfaces the rotors for $120/front and $110/rear for the whole job. I enjoy changing oil/filter myself. The microfilter only costs ~$30. Ask your mechanic to inspect the car for a nominal fee. May need a new air-filter @30Kmiles. Also a transmission flush/refill.
For the 04Max, I think we only need to change brake @50K+miles. Transmission flush/refill every 15Kmiles (after the 1st @30K). Change sparkplugs @100K (or earlier). Fuel-injectors cleaning is up-to-you since modern gasoline has cleaner mixed-in.
Com'on, the Max is the easiest car in-term of maintenance with the timing chain. Don't waste money. Besides having the personalities I like, the Max asks so little in maintenance which I love. You're not taking advantage of it, IMO.

Rotors can be turned at your local NAPA store for 10 to 12 dollars apiece...

Figures. I had a feeling the cost of the 30,000 was just too much. 449 i believe just for that. The brakes my parents felt nissan should handle themselves and next time we'd go and get it done some place else. Luckily i only have to fork over money for the service, but either way it sucks. I'll take your word on it for the next time i need something.

On the rotors....if you have bad rotor problems they can not either resurface or replace and you are under 36K.....would demand they are fixed under warranty, rotors should not give out at 30K.....well, unless it was a Camaro I owned. Regardless...at 30K, rotors with a normal car should not have that lifespan.

Microfillment cleaner.....what the hell is that....charge you to spray some Lysol in your vents? Replace the pollen fileter? At 30K you should not have to replace the interior filter...this is just my opinion...unless you are in a heavy traffic....nasty smog, highway gridlock place that early.

30K injector flush....again, in IMHO.....forget that........!!!!
Nothing should be wrong at 30K with the injectors, 75K....nice idea, but 30K.

For 1200 bucks to R2 the breaks should be covered under warranty, for the filter, not too sure on my 04 Max, but the BMW was about 20 bucks for a cabin filter. Than again, it was a convert so I never cared about a cabin filter.

At 30k though a injector flush is a waste.

Check the TSB for the shimmy first and see if they have corrected that....than talk to them about your rotors.....again, my opinion.

Sounds like to me for 1200 bucks....if I am reading this right...

New filter....R2
Blame shimmy on rotors......BS, they will give a nice pulse if you have warpage
Injectors.....wasted money on clean 30K injectors.

Again, just my opinion.

I plan on getting aftermaret rotors if they last past the 12k warranty. If they need replaced so soon, why by the ame ones?

If it's the micro inside cabin filter, that should be replaced but order from Jerry Rome Nissan for cheaper.

No idea for injectors. I use Texaco and Sunoco which supposedly have cleaning detergents, so I wouldn't want that either.

Anyone know about how the warranty is affected by skipping any scheduled maintances?
I figure as long as you document and have receipts for required mileage part replacements, we should be fine.
