05 max

Was reading through the source magazine i think it was yesterday. Found a 2 page picture of the 05 max. They only showed the Rear which is the same and said right on the bottom 265horse. So we all know its the same engine internals and bolt ons just like the 04 max. one can only assume TQ is the same. and still said the SKYVIEW!!!!! paneled roof. must be with the fix for 05. this is all it said.

Very interesting. Once Nissan found the reason for the skyview explosions (improperly tempered glass; fixed beginning around VIN serial # 887500), I was sure they would keep the skyview for '05.

I am, however, surprised they did not nudge the HP a tad, as it is only 5 behind the TL. I expected 275.

I did not expect changes to the rear, nor do I expect more than minor changes to the front. In fact, I half expect no frontal changes.

My hope is that the interior materials will be made a little more 'damage resistant'.

We will begin to see more info on the '05 very quickly now. I am glad we have this site where we can discuss things.

I drove from Louisville KY to Nashville the other day and saw 5 truckloads of Maximas headed to dealers. I couldn't help but wonder if they were 05's. You usually mixed vehicles on their delivery trucks, not just one model. And, I drive to Nashville frequently and have never seen that many Nissan haulers in one day. But, I was at my dealer yesterday, and they just received an 04 that day, and haven't been able to find out anything about the 05's yet. I have some contacts at Smyrna, I'll make a couple of calls.

I agree with lightonthehill, prob brushed aluminum trim, or at least some protective coat on the trim. Hopefully they keep the same design so we can order for our cars. I know they have a new info screen lid, because ive seen it on the new '04s. Other than that, maybe some minor changes. Maybe they addressed the tsb's etc... because they have to seperate this vehicle from the '04 at leadt a little bit.

While cruising slowly through my dealer's back lot an hour ago (seems I do that almost every day), I saw two shiny new Maximas that had just been unloaded (still blocking the aisle) from a rack truck. I thought 'maybe the first '05s?'. But no; STILL '04s, VINs 931130 and 931161. Almost half (8 of 18) my dealer's '04 Maxima inventory now has VINs above 930000.

I search almost every nook and cranny of the lot, so, unless he covers it with a tarp or something, I should see his first '05 pretty much the day it arrives.

It may also be time to pass by the mag rack at Barnes and Noble and check the periodicals in which Nissan tends to place ads.

Stopped by my dealer this afternoon on my way home to see if they had any 2005's on the lot. My sales-guy said he "Had them on order" but was not sure when they would be in...

In the meantime, he gave me a list of the official changes to the Max for '05, and here is the list from the CPO bulletin dated July, 2004, for orders placed in July with anticipated delivery dates in August, 2004...

Exterior
Auto Dimming outside mirrors - DPP and above
Black Tone Brake Calipers
Interior
Softer seat leather in leather equipped vehicles
New trim treatment applied to titanium tinted interior, trim pieces
(center stack, door trim, shift surround, cupholder cover and
rear center console on Elite Package)
Chrome interior door handle. lock. and parking brake button
Comfort and Convenience
Additional 12V power point at base of center stack
Revised trunk luggage hooks
Revised trunk net to accomodate revised luggage hooks
Safety and Security
Nissan advanced air-bag system
Seatbelt Warning for passenger seat
Mechanical
Improved M/T shift feeling with shorter shift stroke
ULEV/LEV2 emmissions
So, there you have it - hope this dis-spells some of the rumors, and guess we'll all be in-line for dash parts upgrades!

If this is all true, I'll be deeply envious of the manual tranny in the 05. I'd also like them black calipers too.

Still 265hp and 255 ft-lbs of torque?

I like the idea of extra 12 v jack. I wish they had small holder for cell phone also. Had that in my Explorer and it was handy.

Looks like Nissan is in the process of updating their Main Site with information on the '05. They've changed their text, but none of the links work yet.

They did this today - I checked here this AM and it still said 2004 - will be interesting to see if the price went up when they get the design your own working again, and if they are repackaging options, decontenting, or keeping the elite package????

More to follow I guess...

"Exterior

Auto Dimming outside mirrors - DPP and above

Interior
Softer seat leather in leather equipped vehicles
New trim treatment applied to titanium tinted interior, trim pieces: center stack, door trim, shift surround, cupholder cover"

These sound like great additions. Wonder if we'll be able to swap some of the new trim pieces?

As for the Black Tone Brake Calipers, would be nice too, but I like my red ones.
Guess down the road, I could get better leather. I would really appreciate outside dimming mirrors though.

I still really LOVE my car, especially for the deal I got. Interested in the official price hike for these few improvements.

Wish they would change that tooth on the front, but I guess that will be in mind for 2006.

Oh and AWD would have been sweeeeeeet.

Searched every nook and cranny of my dealer's lot again today. No '05 Maxima yet.

He usually has five to ten Maximas on the front (sales) lot, with half a dozen or more on the back (storage/prep) lot. He has ten '04s up front at this time, but only two on the back lot, and both those came from other Atlanta area dealers (still have the other dealer's logo on the rear).

I have not seen his back lot so empty (of all kinds of vehicles) since August a year ago. He is ready for the '05s.

ocuihs - sorry about serial info. I read a missive here about a month ago that gave the 'changeover to properly tempered glass' as 887500 or so. There must have been an error in that report. Either that or your skyroof is on borrowed time . . . (winkie here).

I am glad Maxima.org is back before our first sighting of an '05. Not that there will be that much excitement now that we know here will be minimal changes for '05.

I am not enamored with the change to chrome interior door handles for '05. Chrome shows fingerprints, palmprints, and smudges with anything that touches it. The '04 handles had sort of a matte finish that showed no smears or prints or anything.

The new interior trim treatment evidently applies only to the titanium interior, which is the SE. The SL may not be affected. We will soon know.

edit - I still feel there will be a new color or two for the '05 Maxima, and that champagne mist will be dropped.

we received the new 2005 maxima brochures at the dealership yesterday...no horsepower changes or exterior changes for 2005. all models now come with traction control standard, the DPP option now includes auto dimming side view mirrors, and the interior is getting brushed aluminum instead of the crappy plastic we have now. colors are staying the same, rims and wheels are staying the same. hopefully that quells some of the rumors.

I heard that they may add things like intelligent key and color matching SAT antennas, nothing earthshaking like AWD. Many of the items are fixes that were called out for in TSB's and some minor improvements were made like improved heated seats and upgrades to the navi system (less obnoxious start up screen).

There will none on dealer lots until after labor day. After which there will be a flood of them.

Great to know about the brushed aluminum. So we'll leave the hopes for any exterior & hp changes until next year. That makes sense... I guess Nissan will change a color or two along the way.

The brushed aluminum is a much better surface for car interiors. Much more resistant to scratching and marring, does not show fingerprints or handprints, and looks good. Smart move by Nissan.

Making traction control standard is also a shrewd move. Most luxury and near-luxury vehicles have this, and it was needed in the Maxima.

The Maxima brochures will probably not be redone/reissued more than once during the life of the '05, so any new color(s) might now be months away; probably not before December or January.

Having the outside mirrors dim is a big feature to me. My eyes are hypersensitive to light, and the plethora of monstrous behemoths two feet from my back bumper with their headlights four feet above the ground make night driving a miserable experience.

If Nissan can just totally lick the steering vibration problem, we will have one heck of an automobile in the sixth gen Maxima.

Would like to get the part nubmers for the brush alum parts. I can see upgrading my stereo-shifter-console area with it when I open it up to install the PAC adaptor for my iPod.

05 parts list?
And kudos to the guy that recommend the PAC adaptor for iPod

ocuihs - I re-researched the VIN #s involved in the skyroof recall. The info is in a sticky on this board posted by jattmax. ALL Maximas with skyroof assembled thru VIN # 875558 will be recalled. This includes your VIN. You (and other owners) will receive a letter this September.
