In another week or two, hopefully.. I was at the dealer yesterday and they had no more than 4-5 '04 Maxes laying around the lot. We're all waiting for the '05 any moment now.

I'm really sorry about your Max, I hope it all goes well for you and you get a 2005 soon!

they all say confidential! lol.

good post... i was under the impression that the maxima was going to be "phased out" so it was a bit of a shock that there is going to be a 2k5. I am very curious to see what it looks like, and if they left the 2k4 body style.

No changes to the body styling at all - see my comments in this thread for a discription of the changes in the '05 vs. the '04

The dealer prices are confidential, that's why he covered them and said so. When buying my Max, I had the "secret" invoice prices from edmunds. My salesman showed me theirs which matched.

The info isn't confidential, it's what they're selling. But what they pay and how much they make is confidential including their kickbacks.

Happy to hear the only increase is $100 for the mirrors. Well worth it including the trim. This Max isn't going anywhere but off the lots to people's homes. i painted my calipers red anyway. How can we swap our trim for the new 05 good stuff?

Now only if we could get some Nismo for the Max all would be happy in the Nissan world.

I see by some of the posts here that there are those who are not aware the '05 Maxima is already out. Most dealers will keep them on the 'back lot' a few more days to try and clear as many '04s as possible.

I posted here a day or two ago about the '05 on my dealer's lot. I would be surprised if there were many Nissan dealers (of any size) who don't already have an '05 Maxima (or two or three) on their back lot. And if one is determined to have the first '05 Maxima in the neighborhood, the dealers are only too happy to sell cars off the back lot. That saves wasted time and space on their valuable front lot display area.

You're kidding, right? They built 130,000 of these puppies, apparently exceeding their original sales goals. And they wouldn't drop a model after only one year unless it bombed like no car has ever bombed. Heck, they even built the Edsel for a couple of years!

(And some guy was crowing over on the Acura TL forum the other day that Acura has sold 70,000 TL's. Big deal.)

Blkmax95C - Nissan has NEVER changed the body style the second year of ANY Maxima generation. In fact, other than front and rear trim changes, the basic body style has never changed within the ENTIRE RUN of ANY Maxima generation.

Like Mike_TX said, why drop a great thing? Nissan projected a run of 80,000 '04 Maximas, and I personally saw the 131,660th one built (VIN serial # 931660), an onyx with black leather, at Nissan of Lithia Springs.

I consider the '04 Maxima to be one of the best automotive success stories of recent years.

Damn the interior is going to be tinted titanium? Us '04 owners got robbed on our crappy interior. I wonder if we could replace our interior trim with the '05 trim?

They sould call it something else than a Maxima... no longer a "driver's car". 5.5 gen was the final year of the real sport sedan. I don't see nearly as many 6th gens as 02 or 03s.

Why go to the trouble of blurring the invoice prices? They are available all over the internet and most dealers will even show you cost...anyway, thanks for posting the info - interesting stuff

FYI, I see at least as many '04 Maximas as I see '02 and 03 ones, if not even more. And I do believe the topic of this thread is rather different. But if you really need to take it out, I agree 6th gens are not as sporty looking, but they are faster than any other generation (non-modded, i.e.) and if the G35 can be called a sports sedan, I don't see a reason why the Max shouldn't. Just look at the numbers

I'm fairly certain the G will meet anyone's definition of "sports sedan." The 5.x Maxima on the other hand... beam axle and FWD combine to disqualify. The VQ can only go so far to close the gap.

Yes, the 04s are everywhere. Gone are the days of exclusivity.

And exactly how would you know that? I see you own a 2001, so I guess you figured that out by watching the 6th Gen's go by on the street? Really.

I put 87,000 miles on a 4th Gen, skipped the 5th Gen because it wasn't different enough or distinctive enough to suit me (personal preference), and now have 20,000 miles on a 6th Gen. I therefore have some basis on which to say the 6th Gen's are "driver's cars". I can honestly say that the 6th Gen is a ton more fun to drive than my 4th Gen was, and on top of that it's a "more complete" car ... you can smoke people at stoplights with it in the morning, then drive it cross-country in style and comfort. My 4th Gen wasn't as good a friend on the open road.

I guess I'm getting a little weary of 4th and 5th Genners slamming the 6th Gen ... it's okay if you really, truly don't like the car, but don't let envy make you bitter ...

As much as I love my '02 (for several reasons), the REAL drivers cars you guys are talking about died when the independent rear suspension went in '94.

Independant rear suspension has returned in the 6th gen - so guess we're back to REAL driver's cars again - my 6th gen is far better than my '97 SE was, and I love it!!

I get a good laugh out of these critics of the 6th that not only haven't even driven one, but don't know what features are included. They even put it down in a thread that lists exactly what they think is missing.

bitter statement:

"They sould call it something else than a Maxima... no longer a "driver's car". 5.5 gen was the final year of the real sport sedan. I don't see nearly as many 6th gens as 02 or 03s."

Reply:

Yet 04's just might be the most selling year so far, at least sold way above expectations. How could you see a many 6th gens than 5th gens? You're comparing 4 years of one model to 1.5 years of another.

I dislike turning this very informative thread into a defensive, opinion based one. So I just listed facts. I am also growing weary of the slams. We don't need to stand by and turn the cheek, or walk away. Just fly by with our 3.5, doing 0-60 in 6.x sec.

I'm more of a defendant than a critic, am fully aware of each and every upgrade on 6th gen, haven't driven one but have ridden in a '04 enough times to have an idea about the car.

Now it is you who is not fully informed about the 5th generation. BlackBIRDVQ was referring to the 5.5gen, which only includes 2002-2003 models. And honestly, there are much less frequently encountered on the road than '00/01 Maximas.

5.5gen 6spd has a 6.0s 0-60...

I expressly stated that the 6th gen is less "sporty looking", I never mentioned anything about suspension or performance. And when I said that if the G35 can be classified a sports sedan, I don't see a reason why the Max shouldn't, I had the 6th gen Max in mind. There is really no point turning this into a generation war. Yes, I do love my 5th gen, yes it's lighter and less bulky etc. etc., and yes, the 6th gen is by far a more contemporary vehicle. If I'm here, it's because I want to read and learn about it, not to criticize it.

This is exactly why our resale value sucks. Many of those sales get sold as "fleet cars". Be it rentals or just companies using them for salespeople/executives, etc. This is great for the kids as ever since 1989 there has been a sub $30k 4-door car available in MT with 190+ HP that WILL devalue to $5k-$15k range in a hurry after brand new.

TL guys didn't have the MT til this year and regardless of MT/AT, they will consistently keep 50%-100% more value than our cars - especially as they age.

That said ... TL, great car ... but I still like my Maxima. Everything is give and take.

Does anyone know if NISSAN would have their $1000 rebate for 05 Maxima!

Thanks.

Obviously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To say the 6th Gen is "less sporty-looking" than the 5th Gen is completely absurd to me. (And I emphasize "to me".) To me (again, to me), the 5th Gen is frumpy-looking, with lumpy, vague shapes and lines. As such, it seems to just dissolve into the traffic around it, like some generic "car". As I mentioned earlier, I passed on the 5th Gens because they just didn't have anything distinctive about them.

Now comes the 6th Gen, which I personally think is futuristic-looking without being so cutting edge as to be weird. In fact, I think Nissan hit a complete 3-bagger home run with this car, by taking it close to the edge without going over it.

And sporty? Jeez, yes! Look at those flowing lines, crisp tail lights, hunkered shoulders, big wheels and tires. Mother of mercy, it looks fast just sittin' still!

Like I said, it's in the eye of the beholder. But I really scratch my head when I see people refer to it as "butt-ugly" ... but that was on the TL forum, so I guess that explains that.
