Shaky Gears

I just got back from the dealership where I was having problems with my car. The fuel pump had to be replaced because it was found to be faulty and caused the car to not crank up sometimes. Also, my tires were found to have lateral runout, which causes alot of vibration. The dealership can't do anything about them so luckily I can still get them replaced under warranty by a Goodyear dealer. Anyway, I was wondering, are any of you having problems with your Maximas when you first start it up. As soon as I start it up, the car shifts gears harshly and causes the car to jerk a little. I told the dealership about this but they said they could not duplicate the problem so they left it. Any input would help. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

That sounds like the cold shift problem. There's a TSB on it.

Wait....so when you start the car and before even putting it into gear it sorta lurches? I've been reading on this TSB and am just wondering what is goin on exactly.

My car is after the dates which this TSB says it applies for, but I've noticed a "lurch" when the car changes gears. Most noticible from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th and i I'm accelerating moderately. If I floor it, it's not that noticible. It kind of feels like the changing of the gears in cheaper cars, but not as obvious.

So I guess I'm asking if anyone else with 5sp autos feels the shift when the gears are changing or if it is so seamless that you can't even notice the car is changing gears unless looking at the rpms.

I have the same problem. I had the dealer apply the TSB mentioned above and it didn't help a bit. In fact, I think it shifts a little harder now. I'm waiting til it gets cold here every morning to take it back in so they'll have no problem 'replicating' it.
