Trading the Max

Do you guys think I'm crazy? There are many reasons why i'm trying to trade the 04 Max with the 05 Altima. What do you think? Do you think the Altima will have the same types of problems as the SE Max. I'll miss the look but can't haddle another problem from this car. The shaking is coming back, bad struts, drive seat shifts, cold start problem, rattles and now it leaks. I have this car for only 12 months with about 12k miles on a lease. I'm looking to get a V6 '05 Altima with cloth, sunroof and Bose with the same monthly payments of $380 just to get out of the lease and into another one.

Yes, I think that you're crazy for that. Maxima downgrading to an altima aside, why in hell are you paying $380/month for a vehicle that you don't even own? Crikey.

Well that's what leases where going for in Sept '03. I like to lease, I won't buy a car. I'm glad i didn't buy this one. Although after the lease, if I'm happy I would purchase the car but in this case I won't. I know its downgrading but how much of a downgrade is it that I really can't enjoy driving it the way it should be driven. I don't know.

If you paid a lot less for the downgrade i'd say maybe. but the fully loaded 3.5 Alti is only $3 less than the Max with still less features and power.

If you're having continuing problems, can we saw Lemon Law? They even give us a maunal about it. now remember they are from the same plant, so similar problems can be expected. I could NEVER get rid of my Max. no matter the problems. now if serious enough, I would lemon it out and get another Max. Alti never.

I did just the opposite. I traded my 02 Altima SL for my 04 Max. Now besides the obvious differences between the Alti SL v4 versus the Max's beast v6, I don't see how they can even compare. The Altima was a good ride for what we needed at the time since we already had another car payment. But once I was back down to one payment and the trade-in on the Altima was about even with what I owed, it was gone! Granted I haven't been in or driven an 05 Altima with a v6, so maybe things have changed.

Not bashing the Altima just don't think I'd give up my Max for one.

Um why? What are you gaining? One thing, it might cost you alot of $ to do the swap. If you are going to take a bath when breaking the lease, at least do it for a decent ride. ie.. G series Infiniti

Agree with the above members. Go with an upgrade to a "G" if you wanna get out of the MAX. Good luck!

Since he's taking a bath getting out of the max, the only reason he can keep the payments lower is by going to a downgraded altima. Upping it to a G will cost him tons more each month.

Well....depends on how his dealer will tend to the situation, yes, he will pay a bit more for a lease on a G, but would rather pay a bit more if I knew I was in a lose situation than to take a loss from being stuck in a lease and trying to get out of it for less that what he has now. My suggestion than is.....keep the Maxima under lease and when the lease is up.....than since he is 1 year in so far....wait and see what happens.

First thing first, talk to the dealer, get prices for what they would offer to upgrade to the G or downgrade to an Altima. If both suck, guess you are stuck until the lease is over, you have 1 year invested so far. Main question though, how long is the lease for, how many years?

If my Nissan ever gave me all the problems you had with yours...I sure as heck would not buy another Nissan at all. Why give your money back to a manufacturer that sold you a piece of crap? Makes no sense to me.

I work with a woman that bought a Taurus that gave her hell...got tired of all the crap...then turned around and bought an f-150. I would never give my money back to a manufacturer that caused me such grief.

I've never understood this. I bought a 97 F-150 in 97 for $24,000. In 2001, I traded it in for my Max and got $15,000 for it. What did they give you for your leased car? Answer: $0. So, you pay roughly $380/36 = $13,680 to rent a car.

Even trading in I only paid $9000 to own my truck for 4 years. Blue book would have been around $19,000.

I own a 2004 Maxima and a 2005 Altima and personally there isn't much difference in the two cars other than the supposed 15 hp difference that I really can't tell because I can smoke that Max off the line with the Alti almost every time. As for you having a $380.00 lease payment, you must have a base model Maxima. My payment is $500+ but ofcourse mine is fully loaded with every option including navigation and no money down. My Altima has had no problems since I got it, my Maxima has been to the shop 6-7 times in the last 6 months. Still has parts on back order for it. Navigation works when it wants too. Struts have been replaced. Driver seat replaced. I'll stop right there cuz I get pissed just thinking about it. If you must have another Nissan product, get you a 05' G35 that will have the 277 hp at the rear wheels. Can't understand why Nissan didn't do that from the beginning but oh well. Just my .02
