Extended Warranty Plans

I didn't buy an extended warranty when I bought my max. I think i can find a better price/plan on my own through a third party.

I was wondering if anyone here purchased one outside of the dealership?

For those who did buy one with the dealer, which plan did you choose and aprox how much $$$. I have been shopping for some online. Most are in the $1k-$1.5k range for the highest possible coverage for 72months/75000miles.

Anyone suggest a good provider?

The saleman tried to sell me one when I bought the car. Before signing up I talked to the service manager about the warrenty and he told me to wait until I get 20k on the car. He didn't give me a clear explanation as to why, but he did tell me it would be more cost effective at that time. I've never had someone from a dealership not want my money, it was kind of nice.

I am not sure why the salesman told something like that. but it is always cheap to go for the extended waranty when we buy the car ( a kind of must if you plan to keep the car for more than 4 yrs)

1. you can finance that money along with the car loan.
2. the extended waranty price is little fuzzy and is based on current labour charges. if the labour increases, so do the extended waranty.
3. if you are not exercising the waranty , like if you have bought 7yr/100000 miles waranty and if you sell the car before that, Nissan will prorate and return the money back.

5/100K for $995

Just bought my '05 yesterday.... dealer sold me the 5 year 100K mile extended Gold wty for $995.00 It seemed like a pretty good deal and all of the consumer advice I've come across says the factory extended wty beats out the third party ones. The finance mgr said they needed to meet quota for the month hence the fair price.... I bought his line and don't regret it since I put about 25K on a year.

If you finance the car with the extended warranty, i.e. 7yr/100k, the prorate refund will go to the finance company if you sell your car prior to this timeframe!

You can get the extended warranty prior to Nissan standard 3yr/36K. Don't let them tell you things like they have to check your car's conditions to get you the price.

Consider the warranty separately, don't bundle with your loans.

Never, ever finance the warranty into your loan.

I'd never ever buy a 3rd party extended warranty. I've heard of soooo many people that have had nothing but grief trying to get stuff covered. Just like insurance companys these 3rd party warranty company's want to pay out as little as possible, and try to deny as many claims as possible.

That site reads like an info-mercial MaxMus.

There is a good markup on the extended warranty, and at the end of your negotiations you weasel it into the deal at 1/2 the quoted price so the salesman can sell you the car. Everyone is happy and you have bumper to bumper coverage for 100k. No BS when you go in to get repairs. One company, one car, one warranty.

Anyone hear of, or have 1Source Auto Warranty? I have read really good things about them on many different websites. They offer the longest warranty I've ever heard of, 10 years/100000 miles on a 2004 Maxima with 10000 or less current miles, for $1499 with $0 deductible. Although my car has about 18000 miles, I can still get a 7 year / 100000 mile plan. Apparantly their plan starts the day you purchase the warranty from them, not the in-service date as at the dealer. I just checked their website
www.1sourceautowarranty.com , and they're offering $200 off any policy, Monday(Oct.4)only. Way cheaper than my local dealer, and the Diamond policy seems to cover at least as much as Nissan, if not more. Only worries are that it's through the internet.
