Anyone use lemon law for the shimmy?
Traded in my 02 GLE and bought an 04 SL and have the infamous shimmy. Have brought it in 4 times and the shimmy is still there. They adjusted the rack once, balanced 3 times and on the 4th visit they tested the tires on all the maximas they had left on the lot and said they gave me the best 4 and balanced again. When I asked if they had the special balancing machine (couldn't remember the name at the time) they told me yes that they had this problem before and bought the equipment. Called Nissan and filed a complaint. They called back and they want me to take it to a different dealer and have that dealer contact them while the vehicle is there so they can give them instructions on how to fix the shimmy. They said my dealer doesn't have the right equipment. CT lemon law says 4 times for the same problem and you are eligible for the lemon law.
Has anyone else done the lemon law for this problem or any other problem? Is it a difficult and long process or is it as simple as if you meet the criteria you win? Thanks for any input.

I tried to lemon law my car for the shimmy. Really I got nowhere. I have been to the dealer so many times I feel I should be on their payroll. I used 1800mylemon and all they could do is get me 1000 bucks for my troubles.
Hey guys. I just filed a lemon law letter with Nissan for this issue. I was contacted by my dealer (still no direct call from Nissan proper) shortly after they got my letter-and now I have a pending appointment for getting all of the tires changed. It's now the fifth time the car has been in to my dealer for the shimmy/vibration issue. They called it excessive road force. The steering rack adjustment was done; rotors were turned then replaced; a wheel has been replaced, and now the word is that there were flat spots in the tires- so apparently their fix is to give me a new set of Michelins instead of Goodyears to see if this will solve the problem.
I am waiting now for the tire installation to be performed.
By the way- I had to mail two letters- don't necessarily follow the addressing information Nissan provided in the Lemon Law booklet. It was wrong in my case- and I had to contact my state's Division of Consumer Affairs to get the correct address. I sent my first letter to the CA address almost a month ago and never even got my return receipt card back from them. Once the second letter went to the correct location, I had an appointment set up within a few days- less than a week, and now the new tires apparently are on order. I don't know if this will fix the problem, but I have given them more tries than the law here in NJ requires. This is their last chance to correct it. Let's see what happens.

Yes. Three times for the same problem. But after the second you have to send a letter to Nissan Cons Affairs a letter of final repair. Send it cert mail return receipt. They have 10 days from the postmark date to repair. Mine is filed with Nissan Cons Affairs dragging their feet.... Its seems as they dont care and would swap without a fight
Same Vibration Issue
I have been having the same issue as everyone else in regards to my 2004 Maxima SL, and have yet to have it resolved. I have had my tires road-force balanced, new tires and wheels replaced from another car on the lot, changed from factory tires that came on the 17" rims to Michelin Tires, re-balanced all for tires, and the issue remains the same. As soon as the car goes near 55-60 miles/hr, the vibration starts in the steering wheel and it continues. I have taken the care as fast as 120 miles/hr and the car becomes very unstable at high speed, since the vibration is even more throughout the car then just in the steering wheel.
I believe the issue is not with the tires or the wheels, but more with the drive-train. I come from a family of mechanics who have worked on cars almost all their lives and have had experience with a lot of cars and have never had any issues like this before in my life where the vibration stays no matter what you do to the wheels and tires.
I my case, the dealership that I am working with has dispatched a Nissan Engineer who is supposed to be In Milwaukee this week to look at my car and see what can be done. Hopefully he might have some insight on this issue. I have also contacted a Lemo-Law lawyer in regards to my issue and per their experience, as long as you take your care three times for the same issue and the dealership is not able to resolve the issue, you have a very good case to winning the case and resolving the issue with a new car or all your money back. The lawyer also mentioned that it cost about $1000-$1500 to file a case like this and if the manufacturing company resolves the issue within a month time frame then the person filing the case has to pay that bill, but 70-80% of the time, the company fails to comply within the time allowed, so the payment and all cost involved with the lawyer fees are responsibility of the company, in this case Nissan.

What happens if you've had the car in more than 2 times and the problem still persists? I dunno..too many questions from this point. Will look into the local lemon law. But when you do send in the letter...it there a central single address or does it go by region? If by region, who do we contact to get the right address?
