Like NismoMax said, the shimmy is a shaking of the steering wheel, like you have when your tires are badly out of balance. Some cars seem to have it and others magically don't. It appears to primarily be a matter of an adjustment of the steering rack friction to damp out the oscillations.

Part of the 'problem' is that front wheel drive cars with rack and pinion steering are very sensitive to road irregularities, and Maximas are blessed with very lively steering to begin with. As a result, little ripples in the road surface can set up a harmonic "vibration" that feeds back through the steering.

My '04 will jiggle the wheel ilke crazy on certain roads ... even some roads that look mirror smooth ... but when the road surface changes it goes rock steady.

This is very encouraging to know that Nissan didn't let the shimmy problem into the 05 production. It puts my mind at ease if I accept delivery of my car tomorrow.

LMAO, actually I'll be at the dealer before 4PM (they told me this is when the car will be ready). If I see any scratches, dings, or anything out of place, no way in heck am I not accepting delivery.

In any case, it looks like I'll be up all night thinking about the Max, eventhough I have a presentation to give early in the morning.

I just drove my 05 SE from LI to Florida. No shimmy. 1240 miles in 17 hours 54 minutes. This doesn't include the 2 hours in SC playing golf! At 85mph the car felt like it was cruising at 45!
