I know people never tell you what the 0-60 time is because the 1/4 mile time is pretty much a standard, I heard the manual and the 5 speed are pretty close on the Max. Is this true?

I guess your right. I am a very good driver with a manual but traffic where I am takes the fun out of a manual. At times I do wish I would have gotten a stick anyway.

BLK05 - are you running with any mods / manual or auto?

No Mods - I'm guessing 14.5 for 1/4

Don't worry 3.5, cause I got an auto as well.

What i seriously do NOT like about the auto is that the torque converter doesn't lock in 2nd gear. Sigh.... at least not on the 4spd. :-(

Blows.

Bad weather and bad time. 14.9@92mph. What was weird was my 1/8 mile time and mph were decent. I got a 9.3@74mph. I did notice that the car would shift at redline at all the gears except 3rd to 4th which would shift at 6200 so I think this is probaly why I lost mph on the top end. Good thing is I beat 2 5.0 which was funny!

yeah, dont fear the stock 5.0's...i've taken one already...i had him beat in 3rd gear..i let up once i noticed i was begining to pull away...we started from a rolling start...about 10-15 mph...i shifted at about 6...the Max aint the fastest thing, but it can hold its own dispite its size and weight...viva la max!!

Does anybody know why I could possibly be losing power on the top end? Thanks!

Ever have a look at the b-pipe......that kink and flat pipe is unbelievably restrictive. take a look for yourself. don't take my word for it.

Did you leave it drive? or shift manually? Also, what was you 60' time?

I think the car gets the most rpm by starting in manu-matic mode and keeping there - but let the car shift itself. I lost to a 350Z by only 2 car lengths using this method.

These cars really pull when the VVT kicks in. If your shifting early, you'll lose mph big time.

edit to add: the weather has been exceptionally hot down here and that will suck lots of power. You should go back today (Saturday 11/6/04) as a nice cold front came in. I bet you'll pick up 4/10's and a few mph's.

BLK05; I'd like to see you race someone with an 05 Max with 6 speed (track of course) and see what the big difference is between the two.

It was in manual shift mode and I let the computer shift. But I noticed that when shifting to 4th it would shift early.

How do you let the computer shift in manual shift mode? Is the 6th gen max a true manumatic like the g-coupe or is it more like a top gear selector?

It takes it to almost redline and then it shifts. But like I said earlier it shifts early going to 4th.

I never understood why they made the manumatic like that. My g-coupe will hit the rev-limiter if I don't manually shift the car. In fact, the limiter is several hundred rpms past redline so you can really squeeze out all of the rpms from the g-coupe. It doesn't make sense that they make a top gear selector instead of a true manumatic.

your low traps might be on how well u took off the line, if u spun them then you'll trap slower. My quickest time was 14.3 at 94mph but my quickest trap was at 14.8 at 98mph. And my cars quickest in drive mode

Thanks for the tip andymax. So your saying your car performed the best in drive rather than the sport mode? Thanks.

I might be wrong here, but isn't it wrong wait to shift after you reach peak power. I have never taken a car to the strip.. but I have ran a mildly modded Suzuki Bandit 1200 many times and I would always have a higher ET if I shifted too late in any gear. I was told by a pro drag bike racer to shift when the power peaks...

You left it in manual shift mode on the automatic? Does it automatically shift when it hits red line or does it bounce off the rev limiter? Curious on this. Still figuring out the manumatic shift thing. Normally I do not use it. Forgot I was manually shifting it once when I first got it and the revs got up way high during break in period. If you select manual mode, will it up shift for you after it sees the redline?

Just came back from the track today, a little disappointed though. 60 ft 2.33s, and my best 1/4 mile was 14.86 at 93mph. It was 50 degrees out and my tires weren't hooking so i gotta wait till next summer to run it again. The car shifts up for you in manu-mode. You can think of it as a sport shifting mode cause its not a true manumatic. It just takes it to higher rpms and in my case my 1/4 mile times were better in manu-mode rather then leaving it in drive.
