I just bought a IS300 as a spare car so I thought I would poke around thier forums to see whats up. Just like any forum site there are the guy's claiming kills and racing old ladies at every light, but it is usually with cars in thier class..or range if you will. More of a sarcastic woot, I made a few replies in that forum raising the bs flag and he got real defensive.

 

You know, I hear a lot of garbage from a lot of people about what would be faster, a Maxima or [insert car here]. Just the other day I started ragging on somebody that just got an '05 Accord EX V6 coupe (manual) over it...

Bottom line is something that people will never be able to argue with... when the cars are equally matched in weight, nothing beats displacement. The Maxima is 150 lbs. heavier than the IS 300, but it has 1/2 liter on it... More horsepower and more torque by far 265/255 vs. 215/218). Even with mods and a good driver, you're going to get close at best... or run nose to nose... you will not blow away a Maxima with an IS 300 without some serious aftermarket muscle.

If you believe the rags like C&D, stock SE vs. IS300 is not even close... the Max is a full second quicker to 60 and almost a second quicker at the 1/4.

But some people don't understand logic nor facts... they figure they added a couple of bolt-ons to their cars and pile on the "assumed" performance gains. I bet you next up they say that they put down a 350Z... a beast even us Maxima owners know to stay away from...

 

I looked thru his other posts and yes he raced a copper color one (350Z) just a few nights ago, He lost but it was very close!!!

I bet he says it was an '05 too, since he could have probably killed an '04 with his rice rocket.

Let's see: modded 5-speed IS vs. brand-new (i.e.. not broken in) auto Max with 3 people in it. I don't see why it's not possible.

Well from what I read it's not that it's not possible, what he's saying (the IS300 dude) is that it wasn't a close race. Even not broken in (which we don't know because nobody knows what the state of that Maxima was -- he just said it looked new), it would be REALLY close.

That Icarus dude said in a previous thread that he was getting 208 at the wheel, then 240 (either in that thread or another one linked to here). Even with 240 at the wheel, you and I both know that he'd have a HARD time pulling on a 6th gen... a really hard time. And auto tranny is not a big deal... if you don't want the engine to shift until high rpm you can force the car to do it. It's not even like the Max will shift at 3k rpm when you have your foot down... at least I know mine doesn't, even when I let the auto tranny do its thing...

It's a silly thread, but the numbers are the numbers... even a brand new auto SL (which is not even the "sports" model) vs. modded 240 WHP IS300 would be close at best. At worst, the IS is looking at tail lights all the way. Unless the Maxima driver doesn't know or isn't trying.

Now there are some serious FI cars on that board though, but that's not what that thread is about.

Bench racing is fun..I hate to see it get personal though. I love to race and that is the only way to settle it. Every race there is a winner and a looser. I smile either way it ends. The end of both threads should have been the results of a race and all should go home happy. I used to drag race my motorcycle, I had a 500# bike with 140 RWHP and have won races against bikes that weighed the same with 170 RWHP. I did loose races to the same bikes also. You guys could get to the track and find out that you could be good freinds.

What I don't understand, Bags, is you're a Maxima owner, but you seem to have taken the side of Icarus over on the IS forum... All Maxima owners should be part of one big happy family, correct???

As for Icarus' IS "walking" the new Max w/ the kids in it... It's kind of hard to believe (to me), BUT, in believing, we have to remember that the MAX had 3 people in it and it was being driven by kids... They were probably too scared to hit it, like we know a MAX can hit it, or were just hanging on his tail to see how much room they still had left to floor it... I really don't think they were trying...just like the BMW 330CI he claimed to walk...don't think the other driver was trying. Yes, I find it hard to believe that an IS300 can "BLOW AWAY" or "walk" a MAX of ANY generation or w/ any mods... Now the guy w/ the 400hp IS has every right to claim that he would blow anybody's doors off, because he's just that strong. But that's a lot of freaking modding for a car to practically double it's power output... I would just assume get a Vette, Viper, Mustang Saleen, or Lambo for all that modding and $$$ put into that car...

And yes, I would hope that members of Maxima.org would conduct themselves a little more appropriately since the MAX is a classy car to own (not the teenager's car that someone stated earlier--I've seen plenty of older people driving the MAX). I remember when I first joined the FreshAlloy forum, I got into it w/ Infiniti owners about why they thought the G35 Sedan was so much better than the MAX... It got pretty heated! End result...NO ONE WON!!! It's really not worth comparing. So, I see how you got a rise out of Icarus (and his associates), beemreatr, but when it comes down to it, all of our posts are subjective, opinionated and biased as heck... Not worth taking it that far... SHIFT_let it go...
