Another HID thread ... some info about upgrading.

I have an 05 Max with halogen lights. I wanted to upgrade to xenon so thats what I did.

So I purchased reflectors, d2s bulbs, and ballasts. When receiving the things I decided to mount them on my car. So I removed the bumper screws to access the headlights.

I took apart the headlight. I opened up the big grey lid which contains the 9012 bulb. I unscrewed the 4 screws and yanked out the stock halogen projector. Now I took the xenon projector, I looked at both reflectors and they are IDENTICAL. The serial numbers on the projectors case are the same. the only difference was the light bulb slot. the stock nissan halogen one has just a circle opening with a silver plastic cap that locks the 9012 bulb in place. my replacement projector had the d2s opening at the end.

And another note, the d2s bulb and the 9012 bulb are pretty much the same lentgh. the d2s is thinner, but the length is pretty much the same.

the only other difference between the 2 projectors was that the original projector had a chrome inside shell that the light reflects off of, and the aftermarket one that I purchased has an aluminin inside shell. (now if that makes a difference, i'm not sure)

Well what I'm trying to get at is that I didnt need to remove the clear plastic headlight cover. I was able to take out the original projector, turn it sideways and pull it out of the headlight. The after market fit right in.

So I was able to add xenon to the headlights with not that much work needed. you still need the ballasts though.

My lights are pretty nice looking. they look like lexus white which is what I wanted. they arent blue like benz's. Actually kind of look like the stock hid from nissan as well, so i'm happy with the little project.

I will try to post some pics of what they look like on the car. Although the camera never gets the real color of it.
