Hello everyone;
I need some help here. A night or so ago the temperature dropped below zero, the next morning i go to my car, and notice that the panels (interior ones that cover the seat belt straps) on both the driver and passenger side have partially come off on the top. I know it was the extreme cold that did this because it was never an issue. Now they keep popping out whenever i snap them back in. Is something like this covered under the warranty?

It is practically useless for me to post this thread without pics, but i havent figured out how to do that yet , working on it though. If someone can help me out with that as well, i would greatly appreciate it.

 

yes it is covered by the dealer. have them fix it asap.

 

damn I thought by the panels coming off like that that you lived in alaska, but in NY what temps are you at down there?

 

I am actually stationed in Maryland for now (have been meaning to change that on my profile) but i am from NY. The temp dropped four or five degrees below zero. Yeah i know nothing major for those up in Canada.

I was surprised that they popped out like that. Almost as if they just snapped right off. Weird.

I guess they were just poorly installed...? oh well. I am going to take it to the dealer this week and have them order replacements. Provided it is covered by a waranty.

 

well, hope it gets fixed hate to have panels coming off for the hell of it in a $30k car you know..

 

It may not be cold related. To give you an idea, it was -45F with the wind chill a couple of days ago up here. My panels are still exactly where they are supposed to be.

Bring your car in to a dealer. It should be repaired under warranty.

Hey, jcberb, noticed that you're a newbie...Welcome! You know, my inside bottom panel as you open the driver side door and look on the right keeps jutting out after I push it back in as well...I think mine started doing that when it started getting cold too! That's weird! Mine isn't too noticeable...just something minor that makes me wonder why it keeps doing it...

Also, as far as being stationed in Maryland, where are you @ exactly? I spent some 7 yrs @ Andrews AFB back in the day...and about to head back there to the Pentagon. Are you AF?

Something is surely wrong with whatever holds the panels in place, but they only seem to pop out after spending hours in the cold. I am going to take the Max to get fixed for sure. Thanks for the support.

 

Well at least somone has the same problem. I just thought i had the retarted car. At first it was not that noticeable, but when the temperatures really dropped (by dropped i mean 0 degrees or -2 degreesF), then they started to come off further. Now its noticeable. Kinda getting on my nerves.

But one thing that is really getting to me are the crap load of finger prints and smudges that are on my display screen from when i had my sterio replaced. I didnt notice them because it is dark when i drive to work and dark when i come out. The other day when a beam of sunlight hit the screen i saw them all. Add that to my list of fixes.

I hate that NEWBIE title, hopefully when i submit my donation it will change. I am in the Marines going on six years now and am stationed in Aberdeen (dump). But it is close to everything (DC, NY...). Airforce was my first choice, but then at the time i wanted to be "hardcore" and joined the Marines. No regrets, even though i think the AF would have surely been a better career move.

 

I had the same problem with panel poping out on the driver side. It was replaced under warranty. Of course the new panel doesn't line up properly and is covered in grease stains but that's the story whenever someone at my dealership fixes the interior of my car.

 

The hell with grease stains, i notice my seats had two rather big black spots on them after taking my car to the dealer. I had that taken care of faster than my other issues. The fact that i am carefull in keeping my car clean for someone else that is performing a service to dirty it, pretty much pisses me off.

Thanks for the feed back, i do not want to think of how much these panels cost if replaced.

 

I couldn't agree w/ you more!!! I hate the fact that there are people out there that give you $h!t about how **** you are w/ your car, but it's good to know that there are indeed others out there that feel the same way that I do! I mean, come on, a $30K car is a $30K car!!! I currently don't have a $50M contract over 5 yrs w/ the NY Yankees, so I don't have all the money in the world to throw around...thus, I'd like to take care of the nicer things that I do have...you know?!! That's why I wash my own car by hand; that's why I have a "front row seat" when my car is being worked on; that's why I brief my family to be extra careful when riding in my car--which is very infrequent ( I don't even let the wife drive it anymore after she scratched her Pathfinder's paint job in the rear tailgate/bumper area ); that's why, that's why, THAT'S WHY!!!

IT is good to know i am not crazy on this issue. I bought a seat cover just so i dont dirty my drivers seat with all the in and outs i do throughout the day. One thing that i really hate is when the misses wants to buy fast-food and eat it in the car. Last time i let my lady drive my last car she totalled it, and i only had the thing for a month. Brand new too. At first I thought i was being paranoid, after loosing the first new car i have ever owned after a month, i realized why i never let anyone borrow my stuff.

 

First off, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Was up real early this morning to take care of last minute gifts for the kids...thought I'd give the "org" a quick shout before I lay back down to take a quick nap...

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your last ride... I think me and the wife would have ended up divorced...seriously! But as far as being paranoid, let me share w/ you some general rules of engagement I've laid down for my MAX:

1. ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, NO EATING/DRINKING/SMOKING IN MY RIDE!!! Family has been thoroughly briefed on this...had them sign paperwork on it... (nobody in my family smokes, but that one applies to other passengers...i.e., co-workers, friends, etc...in my case, quite appropriate that Nissan decided not to include an ashtray/lighter kit standard w/ the MAX)

2. No touching the radio, center console, or anything in/around the center dash area. Scratches on the faux metallic finish are a b!tch!!! Not to mention the unforgiving driver info center/display--I have an EXTRA-soft bristled brush that I use to shoo off dust on a daily basis. Also, don't want anyone changing any of my "personal" settings...

3. No fingerprints all over the exterior from entry/egress. Use only the palm of your hands or fabric from clothing to open/close my doors. Being that I frequently clean my car, I'm always pointing out fingerprints from them touching the car... I even find an occasional hand print or two on the windows from people peering into the car...

4. No touching windows on the inside. I have tinted windows and fear that my kids may scrape/peel the tint off. Also, getting those windows sparkling from the interior is a job and a half! Mainly the front windshield and rear window...

5. The kids have to stay completely out of the driveway when playing in the yard when my MAX is parked there. My two oldest kids love to skateboard and I cringe everytime I hear their boards hit the pavement near my ride--so now, they are to stay clear of the car completely when skateboarding. I also already have a foot-long hairline scratch on my driver's side door compliments of my 4-yr old's grip-less scooter handlebar. Have no idea how I'm going to fix it...been like that for about 9 months now...arrggghh!!!

6. Wife is no longer allowed to drive my car unless absolutely necessary. Not going to expose her shortcomings here, but let's just say she isn't quite as careful as me, although she claims to be extra careful when driving my car... My antecdote: reduce any risk by eliminating probable cause. If something has happened to the MAX, I know I did it...no one else... It's okay for me to be pissed @ myself, not someone else...

7. Only I load/unload the trunk (i.e., groceries, baggage, pkgs, etc...). I've found too many scratches, though minor to the average onlooker, on my rear bumper area and trunk. I've observed my wife and kids unpacking the trunk and witnessed them scraping their finger nails on the trunk lid when opening/closing the trunk; leaning against the rear bumper to reach in; just all kinds of crazy "normal" behavioral things one does...but, think it's pretty evident by now that I'm not "normal" when it comes to the care of my MAX, so I expect extra EXTRA care be given to my MAX when in/around it...

Well, the list goes on and on...that's just the tip of the iceberg, but as you can see, I'm really not playing when it comes to the care of my MAX... Hey, you just gave me an idea for a new thread...

My wife has driven my car only once to move it in our driveway. And i don't have any kids that drive with me. My cars look new (mint ocndition) even after 3 or 4 years.

My congrats!!! I hope one day to also have pristine-looking cars in my garage! As for the wife, she has pretty much conceded defeat in her ploy to continue driving my car. I gave her so much crap about scratching up her SUV, that she doesn't want to take a chance damaging my MAX. And the kids hardly ride w/ me anymore, unless I happen to have the little one (4 yr old) and I have to make a quick run somewhere...otherwise, I pretty much have exlusivity to the MAX... The Pathfinder is now the officially designated "family hauler". Even invested in SAT radio and a DVD/TV entertainment unit w/ game system input for her SUV a while back... My kids have PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube, so whatever game system they feel like playing, they just swap out... How's that for giving my family "the boot" from the MAX?!! What's even funnier is her Pathfinder is actually in my name and my MAX is in hers...lol I got serious "negotiating" skills!!!
