clear corners?

Hey everyone, I'm new to posting here, but I've been reading the forums for a few months now. I bought my 2004 SE in June. Had a question that I've been meaning to ask for awhile. Anyone ever hear of "clear corners" for the headlight assemblies? I would like to get rid of that yellow reflective strip if possible. Any info? Thanks.

welcome dopestar.

In order to get to those yellow reflectors, you will need to remove the plastic shell of the headlight. It seems like too much work to replace just a little reflector.

Edit: I've also wondered about that. When I replaced Halogen to Xenon, I was looking how I can remove it.

yea, if it takes too much work to actually take the piece out then I wouldn't bother. But maybe one day someone might manufacture an assembly without the yellow piece? My previous car was a 2002 Grand Prix GTP and I had clear corners on that. You'd be surprised at what a difference removing yellow reflectors makes on black cars.

The only way manufacturers can 'replace' the amber corner/turn lens is by using a clear lens with an amber bulb inside. That has been done at times in the past, and may be used on some new cars today.

We drivers may skirt the law on this (re: amber turn signals), but the maunfacturer is required to follow every detail of the law.

I understand all of this. I thought maybe one day an aftermarket shop might make a headlight assembly without the yellow reflector piece. The law is that you must have an amber turn signal. Sylvania makes a turn signal (1157) which is iradescent blue when unlit and lights up with the legal amber color. I had the exact bulb in my GTP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the replacement bulb for the 2004+ Maxima front turn signal is 1157.

Alot of the previous gen owners bake the headlamps in the oven and the two sides come apart. Then you take out or install what you want, and reglue them. Im positive theres probably 50 threads on this in another gen forum.. Check into it, Ive been wanting to do mine for awhile now.

i bought those lights...they look like crap! the bulb is rainbow looking and thats exactly what it looks like in the headlight.

I didnt take any pics, nor did I turn on the light. once i saw the rainbow effect, i quickly removed them and threw them out.

save your 20 bucks

actually I have also owned those bulbs and they do have somewhat of a rainbow look. if you put them behind "clear" reflectors (rather than the yellow), however, you can't see the rainbow effect at all. oh yea, they also look a lot better than YELLOW bulbs in a clear setting.

I've baked my headlights in the oven to remove the orange blinker. Let me tell you guys, it was the scariest thing watching them through the glass window. My buddies were telling me it's ok, but i was convinced i'd come back to find a pool of melted plastic.

I wasnt too thrilled. i' put them back in and take a picture of it if I can, they still looked rainbow behind the clear lens.

My headlights are off at the moment because i have to adjust the HID, so I can mess around with the other bulbs.

the bulbs don't even bother me really. I just want to get that long yellow piece out of there. I'm not quite sold on the baking of my headlight assembly yet.

i'd like to see a 6th gen do this. most of us 5.5 gen guys do it to take out the amber/install DDEs.

Yeah thats some scary shizz. Im gonna look for a headlight on ebay or in a junkyard and try it. Alot of people do it, and it turns out fine... I think our (6gen) lights arent too cheap to replace.

It sure would look good though...

Is that chopped KCmax? Man your painted lower part looks nice. I had my bumper repainted like 8 months ago and had that painted at the same time. Both the bumper and lower piece need to be repainted now because it chipped real bad and the paint doesnt match very good.

The paints real. The clear light is chopped. I havent really had any problems w/the paint. My guy cleared it several times. I also had the lisence bracket and the rear spoiler done. He filled the hole from the hamburger too... It's a third car, it only comes out on nice weekends!
