iPod Adaptor Stock in New Maximas?

Here's a quote from a MacWorld news article covering the Mac Expo in SF, CA -
"Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Volvo and Scion will be introducing iPod adapters for their factory-installed auto stereos in 2005."
Hope there'll be some way to retrofit it into an '04

nissan probably means murano, 350Z and possibly Infinity. but it is very likely and smart to show up in 06 Max models.

yes as ceehan said look to the stickies to do it now; quicker and cheaper than waiting for Nissan to start.

The adapter won't work for me since I have XM already. Also, it would be much nicer to have it well integrated so song names show up, steering wheel controls work, etc....

I agree that the Max probably won't start having the option until '06 although some of the other manufacturers mentioned are planning mid/late-year availability so you never know I'd be waiting for the '06 anyhow for whatever other changes it gets (along those lines - check out the new Infiniti M35, comes with a 280 HP 3.5L - I bet that's the power boost for the '06 Max too )

ceehan, does that piece by its self work with the factory audio controls?? I emailed a guy on ebay about that piece and he said I needed to buy this also for the steering wheel controls to work with it.

Thats cool but it wont work if you have SAT so it think its back to the drawing board for them because it would be a lot better to be able to have all avaibable options.

mr.b, the steering wheel controls don't work with the adapter that i have except for volume. PAC SWI-X looks like u could control the radio with ur steering wheel only if you have a face/radio that has a wireless remote. Not too sure about if it will work with the PAC AAI-NIS adapter.

Likely it will be 2006 models. And there is no list of models. Again, I would see what Clarion is making as that is the head unit. Unless Nissan switches audio companies...

As for those with SAT used, the PAC adaptor uses that connection, so SOL.

I don't think using the FM mods are the best solution, especially when driving through saturated metro areas. Griffin has released a new cassette adaptor for the iPod to use the cassette unit and allows you to change tracks, etc.

Still, there is a long list of features missing from cars that will work with iPods.

Can't wait to see the Mac Mini intergrated into cars...its small enough to fit in the front storage bin in the 6th gen...project anyone?

The AAI-NIS will only get you the audio input into the factory system. So you have a clean signal coming from the IPOD into the factory stereo, but you still have to control it with the actual IPOD.

You can control the IPOD with the steering wheel if you add the SWI-X AND your IPOD has the optional IR remote module that sits on top of it. But the SWI-X and AAI-NIS combo controlling the IPOD with a stock headunit is only tested to work with the G35 and 350Z. PAC officially does not believe that it will work on any other Nissan model.

The SWI-X is traditionally used when you replace the stock deck with an aftermarket deck but still want to retain the steering wheel controls. In this case, you are keeping the stock deck but using the steering wheel controls to control the IPOD as well as the stock sound system though the existing harness in the steering wheel.

If you already have OEM SAT radio you still have another option, Soundgate makes a converter that gives you aux inputs through the CD changer port (that is if you have a CD changer port).

I have all this stuff in stock if anyone needs any of it.

PS - coming down the line are a plethora of IPOD car interfaces that will allow you to use the IPOD as if it were a CD changer. At CES these were the hottest items around.

Very neat installation this guy did but the FM modulators rob so much of the sound quality it almost isnt worth it =(. A buddy of mine has the XM hooked up to one of those things and doesn't even listen to it anymore. Lets see what happens in the future as far as stock radios coming with RCA in and RCA out.
