Considering 2005 Maxima 6 Speed

All,

I am seriously considering a 2005 SE with the 6 speed manual. Does anyone have one & what do you think of the shifter?

Also, what do you guys think of the car in general.

I have 2001 SE AE 5 speed, the car is nice & engine great (except for the stupid SES light that keeps comming on), but I've always found the shifter to be a bit clunky & almost truck like in throw distance.

Thanks.

I have a 2004 with 6-speed, and the throw is nothig like my Dodge Ram with a 5-speed manual (on the floor).

I love shifting the Max, and would buy another if I needed a new car. IMO the car is great, particularly the 3.5L VQ engine (see the thread I started on this engine titled "Wards 10 Best . . .).
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=367740

For my previous car my wife talked me into an auto-trannie, but I got that corrected with the Max. When car shopping this last time, I would only consider a 4-door with manual and a V-6 and the Max was the best buy out there. This is my first Max, but won't be my last. There is a thread on this site about the things members like about their 6-gen Max.

I'm definitely one who loves the car.

There have been others on this site who don't care for the shifter. There is an aftermarket product (mentioned on another thread on this site) that will shorten the throw. Short-Throw Shifter:

I've also been in the market for a '05 6 speed. They have been very difficult to find in my area. If I do find one, it never has the right options or is the right color. I currently have a '95 5sp and don't think it shifts that great, but prefer it to an automatic.

Let us know what you find.

I have an 04 6 speed. I love it. As for the shifter, it's not flawless. There have been several complaints by others in regards to it. Get the short throw shifter. It'll greatly reduce a lot of the problems in the shift feel of the 6 speed, not to mention it'll shorten the throw. I've got one installed and it's like driving a new car.

In Cincinnati There is one 6-Speed

It is Blue outside/Black Inside with most options, including Chrome wheels.

Sticker is 34K +/-

Busam Nissan has it.

Truthfully I'd like a Blue over Tan but it is not offered that way. I will look for the frost interior.

Yeah the 6sp shifter is ok. I've driven better, I've driven worse. I don't really notice much about it now. Occasionally when the transmission is really cold there is a harsh 1-2 shift. Once it warms up its fine. A fairly common occurrance with any sort of manual transmission.

If I had to buy another Max (hopefully mine will be destroyed soon and I can get a new one thanks to Gap coverage on the insurance lol ), I'd get the 6 spd again most definately!

Dont pay any attention to this guy. Yes, there have been a few problems with the Gen 6 Max, but overall it is a great car -- and IMO the best car buy for the money.

First year of the new generation of any car always has problems. Hell look at the Ford GT which is having a recall on the call completely. In fact the TSB specifcally saids DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR under any circumstances. 150,000 car and it's having recalls. Any car no matter the brand has issues in the first year of it's generation.

I have the re 6sp and I love it. Have no major complaints, the only thing is what CanadianMoFo mentioned about the cold 1 to 2 shifts. So much potential in the 6spd, I recommend it to anyone. 4drsc

The short throw shifter really helps the shifting from 1st - 2nd. Hardly ever shifts hard anymore.

I just came from the m3forum and they said it's normal for their manuals to make clunky noises.

Especially when it's cold, the shift from 1-2 is worse. Some are worse than others. $68,000 dollar car. Oh I'm really in love with Ember.

They even have problems such as condensation in the headlights.

GET THAT 2005 MAXIMA 6 SPEED AND LOVE IT TO DEATH.
