Help with engine noise on 2004 Maxima SE 6spd

I have noticing a noise with my 2004 Maxima that comes and goes, and I have even brought it in for service and the Nissan "expert" technicians could not find out what was wrong and did not even notice the noise, so I thought Id see if any one here could help me.

I have been hearing 2 noises, but both occur at the same time essentially.

The noises occur upon acceleration, most notably in 1st and 2nd gear. I start to accelerate, and then the noise kicks in, but goes away if I push to higher RPM. One noise sounds like a scretching sound, the other like a vibration. They come and go, but are most notable midday.

Can you help???

Does the vibration noise occurr at around 2K RPM? If so, it could be a lose heat shield (many of us have had that here).

As for the other, I'm not sure.

A vibrating noise has also been associated with loose fasteners for the trim piece inside the engine bay over the front grill/intake area. Usually when you change to an aftermarket grill and break one or two of the 4 fasteners that hold it on it causes crazy amounts of noise as you get over 40-50mph.

Great, hope you get this rattle solved.

BTW, I was in Santa Cruz this past October.. I really love it there (it probably doesn't help that I was born there too...).

Nice! I went to school here and now live here. I commute over the hill, which is one of the reasons I want this noise fixed ASAP. Do you think you could describe the noise you hear with the loose heat shield?

As I recall, the noise sounded somehwat like a repeating click, and would happen regardless of whether the car was in park or not. However, it's been over a year since I had this issue resolved (I bought the car in Sept. '03), so I don't remember it completely.

But, try going to a park or a non-busy street and park next to another car or a wall and rev the engine up to abour 3 or 3.5K RPM, and see if you get a clicking sound at around 2K or 2.2K RPM. If you do, I'd bet that this is your problem (took my tech just a few minutes to fix).
