Passing Lights question

Passing Lights question
Hi all.....
1st of all, I live in Indonesia (Jakarta) and my car is '04 Nissan Teana w/ VQ23DE engine (Asia's model of the Max).
My car has original HID low beams. In the manual, it's stated that frequent on-off will shorten the HID lifetime.
However, I noted that if I turn the Passing Lights on (by pulling the light switch toward driver without turning on the Auto mode or the City Lights) both the Low Beam (HID) and High Beam (H7 Halogen) will turn on. Passing Lights -- by its nature -- will be frequently on-off.
My question is, I would like to see how the Max with HID behave there. Does turning on the Passing Lights mean that BOTH the HID Low Beam and High Beam are on, or just the High Beam ?
Thanks.
Eri.

Apologies for the lack of translation, but what is the "passing light"? Is that the bright lights, those can be breifly turned as you describe, but if you push the lever they stay on, so I wouldn't say they "by nature" will be on-off quickly with every use.

In europe and asia people flash their lights to indicate it's ok to pass and/or you cleared the car safely when passing. Sounds like he is refering to flashing the bright lights.
To answer your question, On the HID and NON HID lights we only have one lamp. So it turns on in High beam mode. This means the electronic shutter opens up when you flash someone to pass. I don't know If your car has one or two HID lamps. Hope this helps

you guys' guess is as good as mine: "passing lights" meaning flashing. our HID setup is one bulb for hi-low as stated. it is due to the fact this is bad for HID that i do not flash people unless really have to. you may notice they flash with the alarm sounding (great to attract attention yes, but bad if you alarm it by accident)
the lever acts as flashing high beams when lights are on, so it functions the same with them off.
of course flashing while on hurts nothing (but others' eyes). flashing excessively while off will cause the bulbs to die earlier.
btw
welcome Eri,
hope this helps (we have the same set-up... i think)
