Auto Or 6spd?
i have 2000 miles on my 2005 maxi.right now i do not know how to drive manual but i drove my friends lancer evo today and didnt even stall once..i did alot of reseach before on HOW to drive manual but i didnt know it was excallty like it..give gas let clucht out..i know theres lot of pratice to it..buy it was managable to drive today..is it worth it to trade auto for manual??how much would i have to pay??can i find a car with similar miles and trade would it happen??any experience?..and another thing is i drove town today for like 15 min...and i was pretty ok..but somtimes car making noises when shifting from 2 ~3..is there so much more to drving manual??i know i kinda sound stupid but at a young age i would want to learn how to drive manual for lots of purposes..more fun..^^i fell in love today with manual..
Manuals can be really neat to drive especially when you first experience them as you did. However for what it is worth to you, I now prefer an auto over a stick. Having had many cars both auto and manual before I found the thrill of the manual to be cool but the hassels with driving in traffic and constantly using the clutch a millin times driving home from work got old after awhile and to me outweighed the excitement of the stick in general. I have also found the maintenance with a manual is much more than an auto. Changig out a clutch on todays cars can be very expensive.
Anyhow it is reeally a matter of what is important to you and as I said the manual is cool to have but not as my only car I must use to deal with traffic and such. Besides trying to trade is going to be tricky without losing some money.
Good luck whatever you decide.

I think if you feel comfortable driving a stick, then it would be worth it to get it. But to trade your auto in and losing some value, I don't know if it'll be the best of ideas unless you have the money to burn. I wanted a manual myself but no one else in my family knows how to drive stick so I got auto. Anyways with auto, you do have that pseudo manual option.
For just getting around, the 6spd would be a good car to learn on. Both the shifter and clutch have easy travel, and the engine is powerfull enough to be more forgiving against stalling and what not when learning the clutch. After having a handfull of classics with manual transmissions as well as my 02 mustang I traded for the max, I find the max's setup a mixed bag for my taste when driven hard. I expected the shifter to have much shorter throws instead of being real long like an old car, but the tighter ratios with the good smooth reving engine as well as the effortless movement between the gates makes up for that I guess. The clutch pedal has a pretty long movement as well as being so soft you cant feel the actual clutch engaging through the pedal unlike the stiff mechanically linked clutches I am used to. That is proving to have a bit of a learning curve for optimal launches because of that for me. It's not an issue for driving normally though.
6sp for me!! I drive in the city and rush hour traffic. If you use your gears properly you don't have to shift or brake much. I have gone a half mile or so in rush hour and have counted the cars in front of me braking 10-15 times to once or twice from me running in 2nd gear. Obviously most of these people brake for no reason but I hardly go through brakes. I went 60Kilos in my 98 without needing pad replacement.
Still some people prefer the auto which has its convenience.

While I'm not a 6th gen owner (yet), I have owned two previous Maxi's including my current 2001 SE. My thoughts on this are pretty simple. If you don't plan on driving a lot of miles per year (under 12K), then give the 6sp a try. If you are a field rep like me who puts 18-20K miles/year on your car, get the auto.
Nissan's manual transmitions are good, but not great. After driving my Dad's Acura, there's no comparison. That Acura shifts like butter. Short throw shifter and most importantly, a short clutch. You can't do heel-toe shifts with the Maxima, which was a deal breaker for me. It will simply get too tiresome on long days behind the wheel. Just my .02c.

If you want the 6spd, O5WHTMAXISL, and you feel that you will be missing out, then get it because you will be missing out always wondering what if.
Btw you're 17 and mostly the lazier crowd
will tell you not to get the manual too much work and use of energy. In traffic it is a workout and I love it keeps my bones going. BUT IF YOU LIKE TO KEEP THAT AXCIDENT CAUSER IN YOUR RIGHT HAND NEAR YOUR MEDULLA OBLAGATA, YOU MIGHT WANT TO KEEP THE AUTO.Get what you feel would make and keep you happy.
manual 6spd
all my vehicles have been manual shifts....
love them... having more control over the engine is what i like
can be a pain in traffic jams... but i don't experience those that much
i had to get used to the tighter gear ratio of the 04 max.. but its smoooothe sailing from here!! it all boils down to what you want...
(it keeps people from driving your car too.. hahahah.. that don't know how to drive stick).... LOL
