2005 SL Auto performance

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I've been searching this board and elswhere on the net and cannot find the number...

What is the 0-60 time of a 2005 Maxima SL Automatic?

Thanks,
P

Consumer Guide had stock 0-60 auto '05 listed as 7.1

I think it'd be hard to find "real world" or modded numbers because most people with SLs (with the exception of us freaks) don't track it AFAIK...

Now if we could only hear back from SSR on that supercharger...

05 SL/SE run faster than 7 sec with no doubt. i say new max can do mid
6 sec range...

i'm not sure about 04 SL with 4 spd auto, but it also should be in high 6 sec
range.

A stock 04 (or 05) Maxima with an automatic transmission should run 0 to 60 in just over 6 seconds.

I stomp the daylights out of BMW 330s and Audi A4s (V6) every day.

I saw a 6.4 (zero-to-60) in some pub almost two years ago (when the 6th gen was fairly new), but don't remember which pub.

SLs built since Feb 6, 2004 and all 6th gen SEs have exactly the same engine and tranny, and virtually the same outside diameter on their tire/wheel combination, hence should have the same zero-to-60 time.

I had a 2002 330i (not a 330xi) and there is no way it runs 0 to 60 in 6.2 seconds.

you mean its slower than 6.2 or faster? 6.2 sounds right for the 225 horsepower inline 6 engine. The 328 manual does it in 7 seconds or less so I dont see why not.

For the record.....if you find a 5sp Auto 0 to 60 time it will be the same for an SE or an SL.

The 328 ran 0 to 60 at 6.8

The 330i I had got smoked every day by Maximas. That is why I bought my 04.

The 3 series is not quick when with only 225 ponies...trust me.

A 330 will not break 6.5s.

I had a 328IC, was not quick but the BMW engines are all so sweet, they are wound real tight. 330 is a nice small bump on the 328. I can say my Max is faster, but miss the suspention of the BMW.....Max feels like a boat compared to it.

I still had the bling with the 328IC also

God I miss that car. Max has the power but this thing will eat it up on the curves.

Yeah, BMW is definitely more of a performance oriented manufacturer. The handling of our Maximas do not compare.

My ideal Maxima would be:
Same VQ motor
Same 6-sp
REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!!
Better Suspension...

I've had the most fun in my friend's '04 M3 with the SMG... now that's a fun car, but my wallet just wouldn't let me get one...

times vary, but man you were bimmer boy before, and u dont like defending them? lol, neways, BMW: almost 50/50 RWD better suspension, mildly under rated power ratings make them a good car...

a 330 with a well driven manual can hit it under 6secs to 60mph.
a 328 with decent driving should hit around 6.2-6.6sec

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...311_first_bmw/

i dunno how u can say the 330 is slow, especially a manual... it would pull on my car at HWY speeds, the auto is bit slower than mine though.

OK dOOd's, here is a conservate moderately launched VQ auto vid clip doing 0-62/63mph in 7secs... 0-60mph=96.5kph 100kph=62mph
so round high 6s in the clip below:

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...ZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

harder launch, bit of peeling, but not too much, below low 6s to 60mph:

well it was 100k in canada funds for the last one, dunno how it is with the new one, if it's 100k in american curreny this time.....

they need more torque, they provided the extra 100hp for top end more, but the torque is pretty much the same. its pulling mid 12s in this new one compared to low 13s in old one. they like to stay N/A and rather sacrifice torque and not use a bigger discplacement, otherwise 12.0 would be possible.

Those videos arent what I was expecting, I was hoping it was from outside, that would be cooler...but less reliable...I know how you need all sorts of fancy equipment to really measure 0-60, but that clip was pretty decent. I dont know why everyone cares so much about Qtr mi. either, I mean I know the M5 goes 0-60 somewhere in the high 4 second range...thats all I really care about cuz I try not to drive past 60-75 anymore (bad driving record)

Yeah but in '04 the SL's had a different, 4 speed transmission..which would undoubtably make the SE quicker.

Comparing the Max to a BMW is a mute point. If in size you could compare it to a BMW....5 series. Now, the 3 series can hold it's own. The 5 series is a pig but in a different league. Being an owner of quite a few German cars, the Maxima is not a BMW....nor in the same league. Comparing a 3 series to a 6th gen Max is a different class. Comparing a 5 series to a Max is WAY OUT OF THE NISSAN CLASS....

Not a Maxima hater....I like mine, traded in the 3 series vert for one...

Max is a bit stronger, but miss the RWD and the drive of a BMW....unless you have owned one, there is nothing like it.

Now you can get it, well minus the 6 speed. M35. Or a V-8 powered version in the M45

The 330i was not worth the money and a 530i is extremely slow for the money. I can buy to Maximas for the price of a 545i.

330s get smoked by Maximas. End of story. That is all I was comparing. The 330 is more refined on the inside than the Max but when it snows I pass BMWs sliding backward on hills. The 330x is pathetically slow from the added weight.

I thought we were talking about 0 to 60 times and then knuckleheads change the specific subject.

I have owned both and definitely know the difference.

I see your point, but I never bought a Maxima to go out and race Bimmers. Driver times are all about the driver. As far as driving in the snow....I always drive slow when I lived in those areas....never a place to worry about speed. The 330ix will do better than the max in that area. Now, if I really wanted a car that was about speed......would have just kept my Z28. Maxima is quick, but not fast. Not designed to be a muscle car. Comparing 0-60 magazine racing times is pointless.

Your point is well taken.

I bought the Max because I wanted more room and a car that would get me though the snow. I did not want a SUV and the 5-series is over priced and it is horrible in the snow.

V6 BMW sedans (BMW does not make a M3 sedan) are slow for how much they cost. The should not get their *** kicked by Maxima but they do and that is my point.

I want an E500 4MATIC but I do not want to spend the money.

Pretty sure the Max is a competent family car.. why some want to compare it with others on 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.. is beyond me. Compare it to a Impala or something, leave the Bimmer market to the Bimmer market. Buy a BMW and know you have one the best 4 door sedans on the planet, or buy a Max and know you have one of the best 4 sedans in the 30K range, but for God's sake, stop trying to make a Max something it's not. It's just a nice family car. Slap all the bolt on stuff you want to, but it's still, nothing more than a good, spirited, fun family car.

And BTW: the only people that say "the 5 series is over priced" are the ones that haven't owned one. 530? Shame on you for getting a "weak" motor in a large car. 540? Stuff of dreams right there. Can we all afford it? Nope. That's why Nissan makes Maximas. But don't even go off with "a "smart man's 5 Series" , lol.

The Max is a GREAT CAR for THE DOLLARS. A "GREAT CAR" on it's own merits, price not considered? No way. Like it for what it is. Of course you can also dump tons of $ trying to make it something other than what it was intended to be... good luck.

Actually, BMW did make a 4dr M3 sedan with the E36 model. I was in the same boat as you though, liked my BMW....actually test drove a 2002 BMW X5 that was about the same price as my new Max...had way too many miles on it. As far as the need for size, the 3 series 2dr convert was fun, but not cutting it. I love my Max....but would I guy another BMW again....you bet. Still love the X5 though.

Adding to what brewboy13 said, the SLs built after February 6th, 2004 have exactly the same 5 speed auto tiptronic tranny as the SEs.

Additionally, although the wheels of the SL are one inch smaller than the SE, the higher profile of the SL's tires offset that difference.

As a result, stock SEs and SLs (built since 2/6/04) should have essentially the exact same straightaway acceleration elapsed times.

That is the 330i with the performance package that had additional horse power.

Nice try but that is not the same as a standard 330i with a 5sp manual (what I had in 2002).

Give it up.

Your wrong.

good performance

I have a 2005 SL. I really don't think about the performance. Perhaps that is because I don't drive very aggressively and the car is quite capable as a sporty family sedan, so the overlap of these two considerations is great enough that I can take the performance of the car somewhat for granted (though I do appreciate the power of the car when I want to pass someone quickly on a two-lane highway). I didn't buy the car to race it or get a rush. I just wanted something a little different that drives well and has a nice complement of ameneties, with ample room for kids and to transport some work-related supplies and travel luggage. It's been fine.

I noticed it because of design....and bought it because its very powerful for being a V6, at the same time affordable (to an extent). I drove a 528i, paltry performance, but i just wanted to drive a BMW. It drove alot better than a 2004 maxima (1997 528i) It had a heavy, solid feel when you turned the wheel, somethign the maxima does not even hint at. Thats why, when I have the money, I will buy a BMW or MBZ.
