New bronze rims on my Black Maxima - PICS!!
I finally did the deed and bought new A-Tech 18" bronze rims for my Black Maxima. Go to my signature and check out the new pics. And, yes, I am going to lower it to get rid of the ugly gap. Tell me if u like it or not.

Dues,
I have to admit, I wouldnt have thought that would look good, but after checking out your pics, it looks pretty hot. Some daytime pics would be better. Very different, in this case is cool. Kind of makes me wonder what blacked out rims would look like?

For sure, it is a unique look. It give the Maxima a more sports car look that I think it deserves. Not everyone will like it, I know. Usually something that makes a staement is not going to appeal to everyone. But good or bad, Id like everyones opinion. I just snapped these pics before sun went down. Ill take and post pics tomorrow, of course.

SSR is not in busienss any more, and they are VERY expensive. Volks are very expensive too. These weigh a little more than those for less than half the cost. I would have gone for SSR or Volk if I wanted to blow $3k on rims and tires.
Beware: If you phuc up the SSR rim, it will be very hard if not impossible to get another SSR.

The place I got the rims was this Discount Tire Center in EL Monte, CA. But it also has a website called Wheeloptions.com where they sell tons of aftermarket rims. Going there was like playing Need for Speed Underground II. There were all these tricked out Subaruas, Bimmers, Benzs, Hondas, and they had a ton of rims, and stacks of tires. Vic gave me great advice on rims. I even took the display rims out to my car to see which looked the best. They had this plastic device which raises the rim so u can see how it looks on the car.

I love the color on your black car, just wish the wheels were bigger and the car was lower. I don't see the point of buying new wheels the same size as the stock ones. If you're going to spend the money why not spend a little more and go 19"?

Glude: Exactly, for performance. Im not into the bling look with chrome dubs. 18's are plenty big and when its dropped, it will look even better. The tires are 245 40 18, so the gap is bigger. Also the rims are wider, but weigh only about 18 lbs. It feels faster now, a lot faster.

I've never been one for bling, however, after seeing this car with the sport compact type racing rims and the full blown 20" bling...I gotta say it looks better with the 'luxury alloys' My favorite is Onyx with 20" chrome and a deep lip. Maybe someday when Im finally in the career I went to school for i'll spring for the $3,000+ look. It would go well with the trenz grille too. Tirerack has a 20" chrome nice set for a moderate price, I think this car is more luxury than sport.

Wow, why is that gap in the front bigger than stock? I know you said ur dropping it too, but whats with the bigger gap? Or is it just the shot? Oh I didnt read, its because the tires...I better make sure I get tires that dont make the gap look like that LOL

The car handles significantly better because the tires arent as squishy due to the lower profile tires. Turn in is much better, that is, when you turn the steering wheel, the car responds quicker. Its amazing how one change makes a huge difference in all aspects of performance - handling, turn in, ride, braking, acceleration, and lastly appearance. Daytime pics coming later today when car is cleaned from the rains we had.
I think the appearance will improve when I paint the chrome strip and replace the chrome grill with a Sarona grill.

Why not use the factory tires? Id like to see them in the daylight also... Heres a pic that was floating around with blacked out rims. (Photoshop I believe) I think this looks really good.
Heres the same with what I tried to do in bronze...

Nice rims Deus, I also do not fancy the chrome look. I prefer lighter, sportier rims. That gap is huge though, but the rims look hot on your Max. That bronze color goes great with the black. Are you going to paint the chrome strips a bronze color?

CHrome strips are gonna be black although thats an interesting idea. If someone can hpotoship my car with bronze strips instead of chrome, that would be great. The stock rims look very ncie in bronze, but I wanted a rim that is light. My rims weigh only 18 lbs, a weight savings of about 10 lbs per rim, I believe. I feel it in the car in every respect. Off the line is MUCH better. When I have Progress make my springs, I may ask them to make mine .5 inches lower to make up for the shorter tire.
By the way, bronze rims are kind of hard to find, and ones that look good, are the right bronze color, and are lighter are really hard to find in 19". Another reason I went for 18".

Front gap though is excessive. Real nice rims, actually, they would look AWSOME on my spirited bronze. I almost got a set of Nismo bronze rims...they are sharp.
These are what I like:

I think it looks fine. The bronze with the onyx makes it look "tough"/"nasty". Black would have made a great statement too.
The look is different enough so that I can understand how it can be "polarizing". Hey, it's your ride and if you are pleased with it, I'm glad for you.
In addition to looking good with spirited bronze, the bronze rims might also complement coral sand nicely (which is the color I drive). I am interested in knowing about how much the new rims cost (I would want 17", because I am not going to change tire size) and what you did with the stock rims (Were you able to sell them to offset the cost of your bronze rims? If so, to whom?).

The blacked-out rims look very nice! I wonder how hard it would be (read, expensive) to have a body shop paint the stock rims to match whatever color Maxima one had, if doing so was at all possible (e.g., dark blue rims on the blue max would be a nice presentation).
