I have a MOMO Tube Airmetal chrome, looks really sweet and was easy to install. I'm probably going to get the Sphere Airmetal later this year because it looks sweet too.
They are a little pricey but it's quality stuff.

Do you guys have automatics or 6-speeds? The listing says they are for manual only, but I would think they would fit our automatics as well....

I have an automatic, the MOMO shift **** I have works fine because the Max has a gated auto unlike some auto's that have a button on top.
I don't know what the button is for, this car is the first auto I've ever owned.

Check ou the MOMO ***** you'll love they look and fee.

My cheap chrome $15 dollar auto parts store replacement when the stock shifter broke...

Dealer replaced the broken stock shifter but ended up going back to this, just felt better. I did not like a big shift ****. I had a Momo **** about 7 years ago, great quality stuff. Until I find a nice quality one to replace this, it works.

My cheap chrome ball shifter is made stronger than the stock Max auto ****. The bottom grommet broke. I just like small shift *****. The feel of the stock **** to me was way to big. Momo makes some nice ones...but it is all about the feel. Something about a chrome round feel just works for me.

Law,

Youve probably seen these, but just in case....

MOMO F16

MOMO EVO (I traded this in for the F16, it didnt fit good in my hand, counts for more than you think)

I cut the rod with a hacksaw, shortened it about 1 1/2 inch. Fits just right now...before it stood up like a beanstalk.

Here are pics of the NISMO shifter I received yesterday;

I liked this one over all in comparison to many others. It is for a threaded manual shaft, so some cutting and threading of the shaft will be required. I will be installing it some time this week.

Has anyone ever broken anything trying to replace the shifter? Just wondering because bad things tend to happen to me with these 'simple' sorts of things..Does the rod go all the way up into the leather part of the shifter? I think a low brushed aluminum ball would be nice, but not if it sits too high. But actually my lamborghini diablo's ball shifter is pretty high..hmm

Ya, my Diablos shifter sits pretty high too, but its just not right for the max

Theres not much to break in doing this 04 Max, just a simple bar (at least for the Auto)

Nice shifter Jberg! Let us know how the install went. I know if it was a MOMO, there wouldnt be any rethreading involved, it comes with a lot of rubber caps that go on the shaft, then screws into those.

Which height looks better to you...?

Okay...I am trying to determine which height would be a better install. I really want it short as hell but it looks kinda retarded. Input anyone...?
This is with the original shaft size;

This height looks alright;

This is the height that i would prefer but am not sure of the look;

Halfway down the remainder of the shaft from the 1st pic would be perfect....other two are too low.

You will be OK cutting the shaft on the automatic but the 6th Gen m/t
is another story. In the picture you will notice the reverse lockout lever.
This has to be lifted with the index and second finger on your right hand.
There is just enough room on the shaft to do so.

JCBerg,

First one is a beanstalk. Last one is too short. Right in the middle......

Word of caution (as if you havent seen it yet) make sure it feels good in your palm. If it doesnt, it will bug you more than you think.

I agree.....I personally like this one myself from Momo...

but than again, I have a silver carbon fiber interior. I just like the feel of the ball shifter in my hand, perfect.

Not sure I want to drop over 100 bucks on it yet though.

Yeah the first one is really high, that is how it actuallly fits without cutting the shaft. Here is another pic with it low then another with it in between...what you think now...?

Your call on that one bro. Just remember, you can always cut down, but not back up.

BTW, what kind of seats are those? Are they 2 tone custom?

I wish, they are just covers. With all the in and out of my car that i do, i figured to get some covers to take the beating and any stains and dirt. I just got them off the shelf at autozone.

NISMO ****
I like the gunmetal and black ones...

but that's gonna be one cold **** next winter

do you have your arm rest extended? huge factor in where to place the hieght. with my seat back and relcined, i wouldn't be able to reach the low setting. i like the middle the best.

The Titanium is by far the best...and most expensive, at about $130+. It was selling on Ebay for 60.00 used. For that ammount i went and bidded on the new chrome ****. I am not a fan of the chrome look, but it goes very well with the interior.

And yes that will be one helluva cold **** in the winter. Yah know i might even have my girl put together a miniature fleece cover i can clip on it in the cold evenings...

I dont have my armrest extended, it feels perfect the way it is, but I will try it out that way and see how it feels. I have very long arms, with a slight recline on the seat, I tried it out at various levels, and they all work out perfectly. But i think i might go for the mid-height. It sees to be a happy median.

I personally like how the OEM **** matches the frost leather...sort of impossible to duplicate...or to tie one into the dash trim color...straight chrome or a brushed chrome similar to what the 04 door pulls are like is what I'd do...so it doesnt clash with anything...The sane finish as the button on the parking brake would be ideal

haha yeah...thanks...i need to start photoshopping things...but the million dollar question is how high would it sit on the post..MOMO makes one with a carbon fiber top too..and i like it...but I dont know if i should instead try matching the interior trim.

I dunno about a carbon fiber, there is nothing to match it...

It does however match the button nicely...the metal part of the shifter. Do you think it would sit that low without cutting the shaft?

I think the first MOMO looks awsome. The carbon fiber is hmmm... so-so. But the **** is going to ride way higher than the images i posted. I had shortened the shaft in those images. to almost half the length. It the height will be similiar to carcasus, unless you want it shortened like i did it.

I personally do not like the height of the shaft that is why i am making a deal of shortening it. I wont be using it to shift while i drive unless i use the manumatic, even then i can still comfortably and safely reach it from my driving postition. If you like it get one that you know will fit. Slip it on there, if it is too high, cut it down a bit and try it back on. Heck keep cutting until you reach a height you are comfortable with.

THis shaft is its original length, correct?

The only downside of shortening it is that I frequently use the shifter to rest my hand on and hold the wheel with my left hand. If it was way down there i couldnt, and that would be a problem...the real problem is we're losing the trim piece that goes under the oem one to make it look like the shifter is longer and the shaft is shorter.

Stock shaft, not cut....cheap 15 dollar shift ****. Perfect feel for me and better than the stock **** that is way too big in the hand. Nice to have something heavy duty and metal. Just my 2 cents. I feel the stock length of the shaft is fine with me.
