What would you do?

ok, guys I'm in a situation where I can't deside where to start... I was going to start modding my car this way..

pulley, y-pipe, magnaflow, intake, springs, swaybar and strut bar.... not in this order cause I was going to do it all at once...

BUT, I fell in love with some 22'' rims that were on the 22'' rim thread..

my question: WHAT DO I DO?????? 7 mods or a set of rims.... HELP ME!!!!

these are the rims here:

IMO 22s are gonna rob you of so much power that you might HAVE to go with the performance upgrades beforehand.

I'm baaack, despite the 6th Genners booting me off their forum. It strikes me that it's a no brainer. Put the 22" wheels on the back burner and do the performance/suspension mods you want. The question I have is: Is it necessary to do all of them at once, if at all? Don't mod the vehicle to death at the expense of proper maintenance and TLC.

What a dilemma... Shouldn't you have to pay more for the 22s than all other mods combined? I personally had my dubs first, then got into performance mods... Bottomline is you'll probably end up doing everything someday, right? IMO, get the more expensive one taken care of first...

Me personally wouldnt get 22" rims. But if I were, I would get them first, see how much of a performance decrease there is, then mod it back to where you want.

If you get the performance mods first, feel how great your car feels, then get the 22"s, you'll be dissapointed cause when all is said and done, you'll feel like the car isn't driving to the potential you felt it at before the 22"s.

However, bottomline is whether your priority is looks or performance.

Question: don't you have to upgrade to bigger brakes when getting rims that big?

Performance mods all the way. Sure the 22"s will look hot as hell, but one good pot hole and yeah. I think for what its worth, spending your money on the little things, will lead to big things and better improvements. But if your more for the show aspect of your max then go with the rims.

I think it depends on the rims... I don't know if anybody makes "reasonable" weight 22s, but if not that's A LOT of extra unsprung weight in the car.

And even if not, if he's going for looks, the OEM rotors just might not cut it... even though they look like they're completely covered in that picture...

Tek,

Youre asking for a lot of trouble with 22's. When the snow clears, wont there be a lot of road damage?

Go for some smaller rims ( I like rims as the first mod) and hopefully have some left over for performance mods.

Keep in mind, as many have noted, performance mods are expensive for not much HP gain. How bout a grill and shifter?

well if I did the 22's, my next moves where going to be sarona kit + the grill to finish the look..

if i go performance I will get 19'' or 20'' to get the performance..

if I go 22'', I will keep a show look to it, you know...

EDIT: the reason I ask is because I prob can only do one or the other for this spring/ summer... the rest will have to wait till next year..

well, I meant all at once since I could do the y-pipe, sway bar, pulley and the mufflers at one place. strut bar I can do myself on the same day, and the cost of labor would prob be less vs going back 2-3 days to do something diffrent..

those 22's are pretty hot and i am not a fan of dub deuces on passenger cars. however, i think i would go for the perfomance mods first. remember 22" tires don't last forever. By the time you recoop from the purchase, it'll be time to buy tires and you'll have to keep putting other mods off. just my humble 2 cents.

that makes sence Frisco, if I go mods first then the wheels, I can expect to take care of the rims, and since I have all the mods already I don't have to put anything off..

KEEP THE OPINIONS COMING GUYS.....................

Take that 2K and put in into some sort of money market or invest it. When you make back another 2K go and buy yourself some mods.

I would wait until your warranty is over and that your maxima doesn't have tons of issues. Then do performance mods.

But hey, what do I know...I am trying to save up for my own place.

What i would do is a combination of things, but this is what i would do to start.....

Springs, Swaybar and a nice set of 19 inch wheels/tires.

i'm too poor to vote for either. plus 22 is way too big for my taste. personally i would only switch wheels for a style i fell in love with (18 or 19) not just to go bigger.

all i want to do is touch up the suspension with the bars and adj shocks. (front drop would be nice, but i'm not)

so i agree with sliverbelle.

I agree with what most people have said. Go with the performance mods first. But who cares what we all want to do, what do YOU want to do? Do whatever makes you happy, F everyone else.

i wouldn't go for 22" rims. it's hard enough taking care of 20" rims already, but 22"?? you have to be very very careful where you drive your max. i would go with the mods first. you could have fun with your mods, then later down the road, you could top it up with the rims. my 2 cents

I'd probably open a fund with all that money to help pay for the DAMN GAS. It's even high in Texas and keeps on climbing.

I understand the warantee issue. I got the extended one though, the 75000 mile one... I don't think I can wait that long...

I thank you guys for all opinions, it looks like performance. I'll hook it up and possibly get into some 19'' if I can..

it was just a choice between having it look good vs having it go quick... I messed my head up...

If you are appearing in an up coming 50 cent video: Go with the 22s
If you are actually driving this car: 19-20"
Why would you want to negate the performance, then try getting it back? If you wanna go for all sho no go get um, but then dont be mad when accords pass you by. Im sure everything from steering response, to ride, to how long the suspention is going to last will be affected. It just dosent seem worth it, and with all that attention to your rims you may find it on cinderblocks someday too. I say go for a classy, lightweight 20", Im not changing anything unless the rim is lighter #1.

22s are only going to be appearence to others.. all the rest of mods are so much better.. you will be able to feel it and hear it and know that it exists... where as the rims are just rims.. you will get more bang for you buck with all the other mods...

Go with Piaa because I know for a fact that Silverstar H3-55W are a complete sham and look exactly like OEM.

I looked at both bulbs side by side and the silverstar has a blue tint to it which the OEM does not.

yellow huh...I know piaa makes something called the H3 Super plasma GTX and looks purple and blue, supposedly much mroe so than any other Piaa bulb..$55 on Ebay....Sux I opened the one Silverstar...ill take the other one back...these things are pointless. A pic of the yellow with HID next to it would be nice...yeah, something different I suppose

True that 22 will get more attention, but IMO, it is high maintenance , compromize ride quality. May even sc$$w up the struts...

i would rather be a silent killer, and go with the performance mods...
