Its been a while!

I have been Maximaless for about a year and it is time for a new one. Couple of 6th gen questions.

Any regrets?

Any design problems?

Do you like it better than the 5th gen? (previous 5th gen owners only)

What did you pay for a '04-05 SE with leather no nav?

Thanks!

Never Buy The First Year Model- Seperated Tires, Poorly Built Struts, Shimmy Whle Driving, Shimmy While Braking. Fog Lights Always Go Out, Info Screen Always Gets Foggy.

You should have kept the 2003 SE Maximam.

and you guys know b/c you have one right? All I've had were free better tires and new redesigned struts installed, both under warranty. Neither of which can Nissan be blamed for.

all those issues are fixed under warranty. If you buy a used 04, just make sure to check for the problems before purchasing.

read through the threads and stickies to get thorough answers to all your questions.

no worries, i don't take offense easily. I just don't like a few problems to kill the image of a car for everyone. many makes will have the same first year problems throughout an entire run. or even have greater problems.

Well, I perused the thread entitled "Weird transmission problems at low speed" in this forum and there are a number of owners of both 2004 and 2005 Maximas complaining about their automatic transmissions. What is that all about?

I bought a demo in 03 (of an SE 04) 5k miles....fully loaded....$27k. That was when they first came out too....Beat the dealer to hell...but I like that sort of thing...

You could probably get the same deal (or less) for an 05.

Go test drive one...you will be sold.

Any regrets? I think the only thing i regret is not get the DPP. I want HIDS, I want leather seats, and folding mirriors just seem cool. Other wise i'm very happy with my 2004

Any design problems? As mentioned by maximusprimus, thats all i've really experienced.

Do you like it better than the 5th gen? Didn't own one, but did drive one. The only reason i didn't go with the 5th gen was that the ebrake handle dug into my leg. And this didn't happen in the 6th gen so that made that choice easy

I paid $28,100 for my 04 SE DDP no nav in July 04. The only regret I may have is that I couldn't wait for the 05. (I probably could have I just didn't want to!) I've had no major problems but thanks to this forum I know what to be on the look out for.

Thanks for the replies.

I remember that wheel shimmy on a '04 I drove last year. Did they fix that for '05?

no shimmy on my 04. seemed to be fixed mid 04 production.

I know 03 owners that got a shimmy when changing tires. so for the majority, unbalanced wheels were at fault. although a few could not be solved.

I have no regrets other than not getting the navi. Design was my first reason to buy the 04, but when I test drove it, I was completely sold... Never had the 5th gen, so can't comment on comparison, but I like the 5th gens too~~ I LOVE MAXIMAS!!

No major problems or regrets for me, loved all maximas since the box shape 1987.

I saw a new S55 on side of the rode with hood up what could be wrong with that high dollar car.

Didn't stop to see just kept on, had to pick up my son from daycare.

Thing is, are there any cars out there that are problem-free?

Yes, my 95SE. Problem history: new O2 sensor on warranty 6 or 7 years ago, blew sidewall out of Goodyear Eagle RSA 13,000 miles ago, new battery, new left front light bulb, new oil pressure sensor 3 weeks ago. That is it in 10.5 years. Granted it only has 57,700 mostly highway miles, is not a daily driver, and has seldom seen ice/snow and doesn't like the rain.

Even though they did fix the shimmy problem the steering feeds back enough to feel a rough road a little, and an out of balance tire a lot. Just be sure to get your tires from a company with a good balancing machine and a mechanic that won't take any shortcuts. I would also recommend a shop that uses the Hunger GSP 9700 that measures road force as it will make the car ride soooooo smooth on a new tire.

Good Luck.

like someone else above, I paid 28100 for 2004 with DPP with powered sunroof I bought Jan 04. Plus TTT of course. 34K miles now without anything major, not fixed under warranty.

Ed.

I just bought a 2004 SE a few weeks ago, had to replace my 2001 SE that was a sacrifice to a drunk driver, I was absolutly in love with that car, as nice as my 2004 is, it took me an adjustment period, they may both be called Maximas but they are totaly different beasts! Now I have grieved my old one and am totaly lovin the new one!! I have leather but no navi, I have noticed slight jump in the tran, will keep an eye on, no other problems so far, 11,000 miles as of today! thought my old one was fast, this GLH

Cool, always good to have a 6th gen transplant, but sorry to hear about your loss...

Ya, these new ones are pretty fast, eh?

I just asked them to reprogram my Tranny due to a lurching effect, esp when cold. It made a huge difference to the better. It is a TSB.
