us024: Wow, beautiful job on calipers. Nice looking grill too. What brand of paint did u use on the calipers? Did you clearcoat them? How about doing a write up with pics and post in a Sticky? Did u paint or powdercoat the grill? My calipers are coming along slowly but surely. Post more pics of the calipers, close up with rim off and farther away. Thanks!! Well done!!!

CALIPERS - painted on the vehicle with spray brake enamel. Cleaned the calipers well with brake cleaner and a brush, and then masked them well with masking tape, newspaper etc. Put 3 coats of primer and then 5 coats of brake enamel. Let them dry for 24 hours before driving. The decals I just received (they were referenced in another thread the other day). Cleaned the calipers again with brake cleaner and then lightly sanded the area for the decal with 320 grit sand-paper. Applied the decal and then applied 2 coats of clear polyurethane.

GRILL - started out as a brushed finish Trenz grill. Sanded it well (it had been on the car for about 10 months), and then painted it with 4 coats of auto primer. Then used 6 coats of satin finish black enamel. FInished with 6 coats of satin finish polyurethane. It looks alot better on the smoke Maxima than the satin finish grill.

Just be sure and apply several thin coats of primer and then several thin coats of paint and then several thin coats of clearcoat.

The calipers have held up very well for about 10 months. We'll see about the grill, but it would be easy to sand down and paint again.

Caliper decals...

Mine are the metallic silver; thought they went better with the OEM wheels and the smoke color.

No, I didn't replace the pads, they were still good. Just replaced the twu front rotors. Will replace the rear rotors when the rear pads need to be replaced.

I'll take some more pictures tomorrow.

us24077,

Nice job on the grill, looking forward to seeing more pics of it and the wider shots of the brakes.

What is that on your grill, above the burger? Did you leave a small piece chrome? Maybe its just the pic, but it looks like something is there....

Yup. I have black calipers on mine. I think both the SE/SL have it. I'm thinking of putting the Nissan letters on my black calipers. It would really stand out. Nissan shoulda put it on from the start.

Us: Did you remove all the bronze colored brake pad clips beore u painted? There is a ton of them on these brakes for some reason. I have been sanding my brakes so it isnt as rough, so that when painted, the surface will look nice and smooth. Did you remove the calipers and pads before painting?

If anyone gets to it or has a photo already, Id like to see the black caliper with the SE wheel. Red seems a little played out so Its down to black or silver, I have a blck car so im tending towards black.

I thought about black but its kind of invisible. Red spices things up a bit.

The silver spot at the top of the grill is the Trenz logo. I had taken it off, and it didn't look right with the large solid trangular black area at the top of the grill so I put it back on.

I am planning on buying my rotors/pads/ss lines from AuToMaX 95:
From him:
"$200 for F/R RTP SLotted or xdrill rotors $100 for F/R Axxis/PBR ulttimatebrake pads and if you want SS lines is $90 shipping is $45 for everything or you can pick them up."
$435 total, front and rear...
