Those of you with frost interior!

Basically, I have a Silver Maxima with Frost Interior. There has been black residue forming on the steering wheel. I was told it was just "wear" on the wheel. I was wondering if any of you had experienced this problem and what I can do to take that crap off. It looks really ugly.

If its like mine in my tan interior, its just dirt buildup. I get some light cleaner and wipe it down every once in a while. Does the trick for me.

funny you made this thread. I've been noticing the same w/ my steering wheel (frost int as well) I did a thorough cleaning of her today and tried to clean my steering wheel with my leather cleaner and no luck.....I even let it soak in and took a soft toothbrush to it. It's there and I don't think it's coming out.....I'm not happy

yea I know. I barely scrubbed it at all even w/ the soft brush. I just wanted to sorta agitate it a little to see if it would help and it didn't.

Try one of those Mr. Clean magic erasers; they worked on my friends max. Just a light circular scrub with that eraser worked great. It also works on the plastic that gets scuff marks on the door panels. Try that and let everyone know. I love those things they get most of everything off.

I simply purchased a really soft toothbrush, and used that w/water. If dirt doesnt come off use leather cleaner. Worked really well.

I just bought a steering wheel cover when I bought the car because i learned from my last one! But I just scrubbed my door yesterday because I had the same BLUE JEAN problem. Passenger door handle is the worst though because people aren't too concerned as to how clean their hands are when they get in or out!

wow im glad i dont have frost interior that black leather stay clean...
the suade material on the doors is very easy to clean, i just use a clean cloth and rub very softly in one direction, depends on how dirty you got it i guess. i dont know of any cleaning solution for it.
peace!

The leather on the shift **** is wearing on mine. The steering wheel is ok. Except for a spot where my ring chews it a bit.

Take a look on the drivers side seat. The seatbelt buckle has put a black mark on the colth where it rubs when not in use. Never noticed that till last week.

Do you have the heated steering wheel option? If so, does the heated wheel still work with the cover? Has anyone used a steering wheel cover with heated steering wheel? That seams like it would defeat the purpose of having heated steering.

I tried the magic eraser before and it makes it worse. That frost interior and poor material quality makes it hard to keep clean. I have a black line on the arm rest from when I was wearing a leather jacket... Can't take the mark off now.

The more you rub, the more the color fades but the stains stay where they are.

for example a lint roller or so.... now if its stained with something I dunno...

Frost only?

Any speculation as to why this steering wheel residue problem would manifest itself only on the frost interior? I have a Caffe Latte interior and haven't noticed the problem mentioned on this string, but perhaps my car isn't old enough yet (?), as I've only had it about 4 months.

I had a white and blue leather wheel skin on my BMW. The white would get dirty. Used Maguire leather cleaner on it. Cleaned right up. Soap and warm water works well also, but leather cleaner and conditioner is best for it. If I could keep the white looking bright white leather, even the almost white dove grey leather seats, this stuff should help you out. Clean and condition the steering wheel leather well, but wipe it off good so you do not have the wheel slip out of your hands. Hope this helps. Also, that is one reason I got the black interior, so easy to keep clean. I am done with light interiors.

Ive got frost interior, got the dirt buildup on the steering wheel and used this:

ArmorAll orange wipes. I wipe it with that, then use a clean cloth with warm water to to finish it. Works perfectly fine for me!

So if you take a big Ol' dump on the carpet, gonna blame the color? 10K and no nasty *** hands stains here.

i had some permanent marker show up on one of my leather seats, i was able to completly get rid of it with acetone. 100% acetone nothing else. and it took it right off as well kinda seemed to clean the spot where the marker was. try that it should take much more than pouring a little bit onto a rag and wipping it off

From: a meadow south of Atlanta
Ten months with my frost interior '04 SL and sixty-nine months with my frost interior '00 SE and both steering wheels look just as they did when new. This is good, because I will never own a dark interior or exterior vehicle while living in the sun-baked south.

I very gently wipe each one with a 'Wet One' (sanitary wipes) every month or so, and after every trip to any service facility. This is more to help keep them sanitary than to remove dirt. I think my situation is helped by my 'Howard Hughes' obsession; I clean my hands with a 'Wet One' after every restaurant stop, gas fillup, etc. At my age, it pays to avoid as many germs as conveniently practical.

Mine gets a monthly treatment with Groit's Leather Cleaner (seats & wheel) and not a nasty spot or mark anywhere.
