Question for moonroof owners...
The moonroof in my maxima doesn't close all the way if I try to close it while going at any decent rate of speed. I'm thinking that this might be the wind resistance activating the safety mechanism they put in to keep it from closing on people's limbs.
But it will go almost fully closed and then revert back to the halfway position. So far the situation hasn't arisen, but this would obviously be a pain if it happened when it started raining suddenly on the highway or something. I can close it once the sliding switch is cut off and the rocker switch can be used to close it manually. But this can take a minute or so.
My question is, is this normal or is this something that I need to have a dealer look at?

Mine opens and closes, whatever I want, at any speed. Looks like you should get the dealer to have a look.
There were known problems with the moonroof not closing properly because of the wind deflector, and there is TSB for this.

same problem, at first it wasnt to often but now its everytime. Brought it to the dealer about 6 times and yet no fix.,. wonder if I can pull some lemon law thing for this, even though its a small issue. Its really starting to TICK me off.
and a lil off topic, I was driving around 11 @ night and from the opposite way a maxima was coming by and MANNNNN are those HID's bright., now I know why ppl get so annoyed at me, brought this issue to dealership too and yet still gettin flashes.

Yeah, I've seen the moonroof TSB. But I wasn't sure it addressed this. Is the wind deflector not in the same position at all times? Because if it is, it wouldn't make any sense that it only happens when I'm driving. But you may be right...I'll have to look at that some more. Thanks.
FIX: try this.....................
this is caused by the wind deflector...... that plastic piece that pops up when the moon roof opens...
the prob is that when closing the roof it won't push the deflector down all the way past the body of the car causing it to get stuck and stopping the roof from closing all the way..
fix: open the moon roof, pull up on the deflector alittle so you bend the metal arms that hold it.. so it have more contact with the roof and get pushed down earlier so it won't hit..

Now that 04FrostSL (from Smyrna GA, hometown of Julia Roberts) has help with his moon roof, Silver SL has mentioned what I consider to be an important point.
The first few months I had my '04 SL, I could easily see that the top edge of my low beams was just above both the outside and inside mirrors of vehicles in front of me. Glances back by those drivers only confirmed what I already knew. This also let me know oncoming traffic was probably impacted.
I tested the low beam pattern at length in my garage, and determined the upper cutoff of both left and right HIDs was very slightly high. But I felt so uncomfortable driving at night with these zillion candlepower lasers disturbing folks that I had my dealer lower them BELOW specs.
This has worked very well for me, and I feel perfectly comfortable driving at night again.

My moonroof started to act up again recently. I had the TSB applied a couple mths after I got her. The fix was to twist the nylon on the corners so it dropped it a little. Great fix for a 33k car. It just started to hit the deflector again........soooo aggravated. Just add it to my list of other problems that have sprung up recently
I appreciate the replies. I'm still not completely convinced that it's the deflector, simply because of the fact that it will operate perfectly every single time when I'm sitting still. But we'll see.
As far as the headlights go, I've never been flashed. Since you guys mentioned it I paid a bit more attention to the level of mine. They don't seem to project too high at all. It seems about right as far as this layman can tell. Maybe the previous owner had them lowered though...who knows.

What is interesting is that the moonroof in the 2005 model has been redesigned from the 2004 model. If you compare both of them, you'll see the difference. Nissan definitely made improvements in the 2005 model. There are less wires showing with the design improvement, which really prevents wind noise from coming into the passenger compartment.
I have had a small issue with my moon/sun roof, when it closes it makes a loud pop as it completes the closing cycle. I really believe that it has to do with the deflector though. How about this question, has anyone noticed their sunroof being loose ( making noise going down the road, in the closed position?)
