First real problem

Hi guys, after almost 7k worry free miles I have my first issue. I stopped at a store today and when I got back in and started the car it had no power. You could floor the gas and the RPMs stayed about 1100. The service engine soon light came on too. I turned the car off and turned it back on and the power came back but the lights still on. It was like I was in a car with a linkage to the carb and it was disconnected. I'm new to drive by wire. I called the dealer and made an appointment for Wednesday. Has this happend to any of you? The only mod on the car is an alarm system The car was warm but not overheating. All fluids are good, the gas cap is on tight. I only use Sunoco premium. Do you guys think it was a fluke and now I have to go to the dealer to get the light reset or maybe somethings crappin out.

I read here on the org about someone with same issue a little while back, 99% sure was elec. throttle. Some Muranos also have this problem, Muranos got recalled last week, maybe related. Could be weak battery.

Thanks for the input. I wonder if the alarm is draining the battery. I hope not I can just hear the dealer now......... It's installed by someone elese and we r not responsible. That would be ok if it is the alarm but you know how it is. Blame the other guy

If your car is drive okay now, it probably isn't the battery. If they say alarm, show them this:

I thought I saw somewhere on here before someone else having this same issue and it turned out to be the electric fuel pump was going. Said they changed it and no more issues if I recall correclty. Not sure who it was on here but it was months ago.

38,000 miles in one year

Right now the front grill on mine looks like it has pits, the rubber seal in the driver side back door has loosened itself out, the chrome trim up top and coming down the side of the windshield is all hazy and ever since I put 18'' SE rims on I get a clunk noise from the front end over bumps and turning. Is any of this still under warranty? What about the radio staying on when you shut the car off and the seat not moving backwards? I bought it with 4K on it so I know I have driven a lot since July 04 but come on this stuff should not be happening.

I've had my radio and transmission replaced, had the shimmy problem fixed, but now it seems that htere is excessive wear in the front tires (just had the tires rottated and balanced 2 months ago), and now there has been an intermmitent CEL the past two weeks. All of this is aside from the various sqeeks and rattles, and the interior is starting to look worn and dated. Everytime I go in to the dealer with these problems they always give me a hard time, but since I/m an old guy (50+) and since I know I'm alot smarter than these service guys, they always give in. How many of you guys think that the previous generations were more reliable? My daughter had the 5th gen? and it didn't have these many problems. The reason why I registered here on the boards is because we've got so many problems with our Maxima and I'm figuring that since there are so many enthusiasts, like myself, we can figure out what's is wrong. Anyway, sorry for the long rant. This is only our 3rd japanese car, my wife and I have owned, we've owned mostly Audi's, BMW's and a few Mercs. The other two (Honda and Infinity) were somewhat reliable, but this has been the worst, including the service. In fact, it has been worst than our Audi and BMW . Maybe our Maxima is a lemon. WHat kind of problems have some of you other guys have had with your beloved cars. Our Max is still stock by the way. No flames please. I'm too old to be arguing with some of you younger guys

Thread Hijaker. :-P

-AoW-JP, yeah i know what you mean. TPS & EGR problems can do this sometimes as well.

I do believe the car is in 'Limp Home' mode, so you may have a 'serious' problem. The code pull will def. let you know whats going on.

Are you misfiring?

I had the same problem with my car. I turned it on and the car felt like it lost all its power. My dealer deemed it was the fuel pump and replaced it. I did not have any problems for a while.
