Nismo intake for our 6th gen?

Hey guys I was reading this little article, and it seems incredible how they get so much hp and torque out of just a CAI. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those dyno numbers read 204hp before the mod, and 232 after. Don't they need to re-calibrate the computer in order to get maximum gain? Looking at the engine bay, it looks so much like a Maxima, that maybe we could make it fit on our car. Any thoughts?

to me, it looks like....

before after
187 hp -> 212 hp
204 lb-ft -> 232 lb-ft

"At 4800 RPM's the NISMO intake made 25.6 hp over stock and an astounding 28.11 lb ft more of torque"

and it looks like it gained 12.9 hp and 13.52 lb ft of torque at the wheels at peak

about the fitting question. I'm pretty sure intake itself will fit. but you might need to take the support bracket off and weld it back on for proper installation.

Yeah, this is the thread. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=401042

I PM'd kenttz not too long ago to see if everything was still working out okay and he said that he has had no problems.

it's listed in the Mod sticky.

******Maybe upon intial install, you'll see gains, but wont the ECU recognize the different air and make adjustments accordingly?********

These mod testings need to reflect inital results and long term ones, say a month (or if anyone knows how long the ECu needs to respond.

Mike is claiming 20 minutes: http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/...fthenerds1.php

Of course it was on an Altima, but couln't have evolved drastically in a couple of years.

20 minutes for the ECU to fully adjust. but it does not say if the adjustment increases performance, or make necessary adjustments to keep stock specs.

I feel this is the heart of mod discussion, especially for intakes. b.c usually, someone says "you need a chip to force the car to accept the power of the mods."

Nice gain for an intake.

They should post A/F plots.

it doesn't mean it will give maxima same gain.

tho...i think i'm getting one. I said to myself that i'm done with modding after my previous car. but, I wanted an intake so bad..., i didn't get one cuz it might start me modding the car again. also the warranty issue. but i don't think i can pass this up. i will be back with pictures and sound.

my main purpose of getting intake is its sound. I don't expect significant
performace gain. I've intalled many intakes, aem cai, injen, cheap ebay intakes, lol. and the results were all "I think it feels faster", not "oh sh*t!!!,
it's definately faster!!!"

however, I will try to get it dynoed when I have time to visit my brother in-law's tuning shop. I wish I could get it dynoed before installation so that you guys can see the actual difference. but I don't think i can get it dynoed before installation.

anyhow, don't expect performance gain just with intake.

Please, let's not revisit the "gains with intakes" issue! I would say it is very likely that the gains are not "as advertised". Some may even say there are "no" gains. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a Nismo intake for the 6th Gen, there is a guy on CD that just put one on. Looks pretty tight, like the Injen set-up. According to his page, he had a Stillen intake before and switched to the Nismo which takes it further away from the engine and he apparently felt "more" gains too. Anyway, here's a link to his site, it's on this page........http://www.cardomain.com/ride/510874/8.

I Have The Nismo Cai Installed On My 6th Generation Maxima. Fits Perfectly.
i purchased it from performancenissanparts.com.
they are specifically selling and advertisting it for 2004 maxima.
noticable increase in horsepower and throttle response over my previously installed stillen high flow intake. lower DBL level than stillen.
can be installed without removing driver side front wheel although i suggest you do, take my word for it.
so far so good.

please Prove it increases HP and torque.

I sure know that IF I ever do performance mods, I will dyno before and after. If no increase is found, I will take it back.

don't get me wrong, I liked the nismo CAI since a member got it months ago. but besides price, I don't feel like cleaning the filter every month and uninstalling it during the winter.

Now if someone would prove performance gains, it would go on my long term wish list.

CAIs are usually exposed to the road and get a lot dirtier a lot faster. you can get replacable ones ($$$) or reuseable. Worst part is constantly uninstalling it to get to the filter.

I'm not too sure I totally agree with that statement, the Injen is tucked inside the wheel well and the stillen/berk draw in just as much dirty air from the front grill as the lower wheel well, just walk around some of the shows and look at some rides that are so buffed, you can see a bird's a$$hole in the reflection and an engine bay that is as dirty as the inside of a dumpster.

As for cleaning it every month, not true, mostly depends on your driving environment. I check mine monthly, however only cleaned it once in 6 months...

I had cold air intake in my previous car, and it didn't need to be cleaned every months. it had K&N filter, K&N claimed that it needs cleaning at 50k miles. yes, 50k miles. however I cleaned it every year with K&N cleaning kit.
when i took it out for cleaning the filter wasn't that filthy.

I just bought a nismo cai on ebay. hopefully i can get it intalled next week.

I agree that CAI don't need cleaning that often, they're just a little more difficult to get to. I have K&N and I make a habbit of checking every oil change and clean when it looks dirty, maybe 3-4 months. Hell, just wash, dry, and spray at night, and put back on in the morning(insert your own jokes here!). I knew a guy who never cleaned his K&N 'cause he didn't think they needed cleaning, ever (life time filter and all), and he didn't understand why his car kept stalling when idle

This item is a magazine racers pipe dream. What makes it so special over the intakes with the same design that are all the same. It is a tube, and a open ended air filter. A NISMO branded intake is no different from any other one out there. 25 HP over stock from that article......I throw up the BS flag.

Not ragging on you either VTmaximaVT for the post. They must have done a dyno with the Tornado in the intake and the blow drier supercharger.....that might be the reason for the 25HP intake gain....and a few Nismo stickers.....it all adds up.

I was just correcting the very first post as he mis-understood the article.

that was dynoed on altima SE-R, no guarantee that maxima will have
same gain. tho I expect to gain what SE-R gained since same engine base with similar hp rating will have same setup most likely.

I don't expect performance gain from an intake. I'm getting one for the acoustic pleasure. however 25hp at 4800 rpm/13hp at peak gain is not something you can neglect. they tested AEM cold air intake on Altima 3.5SE and they gained 8.5 hp at peak.

*click* Nismo CAI for Altima 3.5 on ebay

that's the link to the item on ebay.
I paid $235 + $8 shippping, so $243 total.
looks like a salesman of a Nissan dealer in Doylestown, PA, is selling some nismo parts and nissan related parts. I was trying to contact him, but he wasn't at his desk when I called.
according to my research, it's the cheapest new nismo intake you can get on the internet.

nismo releases the CAI for the MAXIMA!!! I know this isn't much since the Altima CAI works, but it's a start for Maxima/Nismo right?

Although it's R-Tune meaning off road purposes and not warranted.

even if it was S-Tune (doubtful) sure they wouldn't warrant it on another car (Maxima) than the Alti.

well, if you simply look at Nissanusa.com, it's listed as R-Tune. Of course under R-Tune Nissan states:
"The installation of these components could also void vehicle or other Nissan warranty coverage."
