New to Maxima.org

Hello Everyone,

I'm glad I found this forum. I am not a Honda person, but I like Honda F1 when they had Prost and Senna as the drivers. This is my first thread/post. I have an '05 Maxima SE w/ 4000 miles.

My car has one problem. It has a clicking sound from the engine area, especially when the RPM is at 1000 to 2000. The dealer said it's the evaporator stepper motor; and it is normal???. Does anyone experience this problem? I called Nissan and they will investigate ASAP.

Thanks in advance

Personally I always thought of Prost and Senna as driving for McLaren Honda.. prominence on the McLaren .

Welcome to the ORG. This is not the right forum to post this question. Since you are a new member, you are not allowed to create new threads yet. This belongs in the 6th Gen forum. You have to have 15 posts before you are allowed to create your own threads. Read some of the existing threads and provide your input (don't post ***** or thread crap). Once you have 15 posts, you can create a new thread and post your question.

Cheers.

Thanks for the welcome. You're right, it was McLaren Honda. Honda left Williams to join McLaren in the late '80's to early '90s. Honda made both Williams and McLaren world champions for both drivers and manufactures. Currently Honda supplies its engines to BAR and Mercedes supplies its engine to Mclaren.

this is the wrong forum.

if you donate, you can start a thread in the 6th gen forum. if not make 15 quality posts throughout maxima.org and then start new threads.

you're the first to present this problem, but some may have advice. you best bet is to wait on Nissan, or keep calling them until they answer your problem.

I know I'm in the wrong forum. Nissan just called me back with the file #. My car is still under warranty anyway. At least I can present the issue to others so they can monitor their evaporator stepper motor on their '05 Max.

Thanks for moving this thread.

Nissan called me today the knocking sound is normal for the '05. Well I tested a brand new '05, and there is a knocking sound, too. But I tested 2 '04s and there is no knocking. The knock is very difficult to detect. The noise only at 1400 to 1500 RPM. There is no knock at idle. I think the knock comes from the evaporator canister SV, but the Nissan service said it from the evaporator canister stepping motor. There is no TSB for this, yet.

I think I know what you're talking about.
My 05 makes a sound when its idling, but its not a knocking sound, its more like a ....tsk....tsk....tsk.....tsk

Sounds kinda like the noise of the belts moving so I didn't think anything of it, just like a normal idle sound from any engine.

is this what you are refering to?

Thanks for the replies. I do not hear the knock when the engine is idled at normal temp. To see if your '05 has this kind of knock, the engine must be at normal temp. While the car is in PARK, push the gas pedal slowly so that the engine speed is approximately from 1000 to 2000 RPM. Again the knock is at 1400 to 1600 RPM. It sounds like a solenoid valve is actuating. Nissan told me that if they have more complaints, then they might have a service bulletin.
At least they have my complaint file # for now. The maxima is a great car. This is my second Max, the first one was a 1999 super black.

My '05 smoke came with DPP, sunroof, SE spoiler, factory chrome wheels, and more.

Thanks again

First off welcome aboard! And secondly, I'll have to pay closer attention and see if I hear what you're describing...

I get this on my motor at idle when it is cold then it goes sound like tappet ticking ,.... bit like a time bomb... more pronounced on very cold days..

I was told that it is quite normal and you only really have it a very short duration and then only kinda hear it when the window is down.

Welcome to to .org too...
