Very cool look. Did you use factory paint? I asked at a body shop about painting the lower grill and they said it would just chip off. Is there something special you have to use to prep?

I think the red contrast will look great!!

yes I did... on the covers as well... I had the lower grill painted awhile ago I'm just now posting pics, but you see is still holding up..

we did use a chrome looking primer first on the lower grill and also sanded it, I dunno if that helps at all. but all is the factory paint.

This site is really making me drool...

I'm just itching to get started on personalyzing my max...alittle pricey for me at the moment, but I'm sure the day will come (...com on lotto!!!...)

Do you know the name of the primer you used and where you got it?

Thanks for the info!

Let me know too... I dropped off my spoiler to get painted on Thursday and I was talking to my guy. He said that he usually doesn't paint engine covers because the heat of the engine could mess them up after a while, but if you've done it with OEM paint and it's holding up then I'll have him do mine anyway.

After having the lower grill painted its really hard to appreciate stock maxima's with that hidious black grille. Looks like they should come that way from the factory. Good work and nice engine bay

Mine lower thing is painted too but its chipped to hell. Anyways I think it would look nice black if you had the black AT grill or the SS grill in black to match the lower one.

viguera, maximob

I called my painter,

he bought the paint at "Sherwin Williams" it is a sherwin williams "plastic adhesion promotor",
this will make the paint stick well on plastic peices.

so the steps are:

1... sand the peices some, clean them well..
2... plastic adhesion promotor (this was sprayed by a paint gun)
3... automotive paint (choose your color)
4... turbo clear for fast drying (you can use any clear, but thats the quickest dry)

hope that helps my boyz..

just an FYI: I had the lower grill painted 2 months ago, those pics are new, but the paint is 2 months old, still looks good so far..

thanx for all the comments guys...

the front plastic piece for the air flow can be easily removed and you can paint them too, same goes for the top portion of the air filter case.

Yep, the part that goes straight to the intake... 3-4 of those clips IIRC.

I didn't bother cause it will be removed once the SC comes out or an intake is installed..

Well Done!

Great job. I especially like the lower grille paint job. I wish mine was the same color as the rest of the body. In my opinion, the stock black lower grille (horizontal line) interrupts/intrudes on the uniformity of the rest of the body and is at odds with the shape/line of the car along its length.

About how long did it take (to do the lower grille) and could you give a cost breakdown (labor and various materials)?

Thanks.

This is exactly what my guy said... same stuff he used for my bumper when he painted it. I think they need to use that to help paint stick to plastic, but I think he was worried that it wouldn't hold up because of the heat. But if it works for you (and the other people out there that have had them painted) then it's party time...

it was 55 bucks for the turbo clear, and about 20 bucks for the silver paint...

I can't give you a actual labor charge cause I didn't get it done in a shop. my friend did it in his garage and only charged me for the clear, the silver he had at work. he works for a body shop.

all i payed was the 55 dollars...

hell yea, its party time for you... the way I see it VIG, if the car paint can handle weather and the hot sun, it can handle the engine heat no prob you know..

party on my man..

Would you mind taking a shot from about 15 feet away from the car? I'm interested in seeing how the front looks from far away (w/ painted front)

Thanks tek, I appreciate you taking your time to take the pics. I really like them. Now why couldn't Nissan think of this? Your bottom goes well with your eyebrows. Is a front grille in your mind for the future?

yea.. i'm still trying to deside between sarona or just modding the oem on. take out the teeth and put mesh in there like HZ did..

I want some chrome in the front, I don't wanna loose all of it, cause I want it to match the wheels some..
