I have no idea how they will incorperate into the dash since everything seems molded in. Getting a 6th gen soon, and I just want to have some ideas on what challenges i'm going to face.

thanks!

They sure do...they don't make double dins what you see there...that is a metra dash single din modified into a double...far as I know I'm the only one thats got it, but some of the cats here do a LCD screen swap down to the bottom and use the top space for a monitor.... check out jsmithsole's ride he's got a nice hook up with a single din flip out

Gec is that the pioneer d1 or the eclipse 5435? I am debting between the two which one to buy moms is hooking me up for x mas. You guys have any thoughts on which is a better unit. No place around here sells them both I have to go to different shops to see them I would love to have a side by side comparison on them.

They don't make one... people just hack the pocket out of the Metra kit and use it as a double AFAIK.

Not sure if there's any type of support back there though... the guys that have done it (desmo and gec I think) will know more about that. My guess is that you have to rig something back there if you're planning to mount a double-din unit in there.

How is everyone moving the top info screen to the bottom of the console like OmarBadu's and JSmithSole's? What do I need to do to make that fit in the bottom opening?

what all goes into getting that pocket out so that a double din to fit. I just ordered my avn 5435. And I need to see how to get it to fit.

you need nothing, just remove the door to the bottom pocket and remove the screen from the top to the bottom..

seems too easy huh? its all it is, it fits perfect down there just like that..

Not really familiar with the eclipse, but I'm a Pioneer HU fan...always have been... gotta do some modding and bypassing to it to get all the safety features disabled, then its a great unit.. I mean look at all the stuff I got it controlling right now ---

- Navi
- Rear View Cam
- DVD
- 4 Add'l Monitors
- Plus its an MP3 player --- disc changers are out

for audio its wired into my bose, but will be getting much more outta that end in the future...

yeah I heard about the bypass on the gyroscope on the I think Pioneer leaked how to do it becasue they were the only manufacture that used the gyro. I went with the eclipse becasue it has the dvd built into the unit not to mention 3 yr warrenty and 1 yr antitheift. How was it cutting that pocket to get the double din?

so the info screen needs no modifications to fit in the bottom opening? The wire in the back of it is long enough to move it to the bottom? How do i secure the screen in the bottom?

No the info screen needs no modification, it just kind of wedges in there perfectly. The wire is a stretch but it will reach.

Thanks man, no it's not too bad once you get used to it. The IPOD is usually tucked away now since I got the interface for the HU...at least one less distraction I guess!!!
