Goodbye Maxima

Goodbye Maxima
Well ladies and gentlemen, I got rid of the Maxima this weekend. We bought an 06 VW GLI (Jetta, for those unfimiliar). It's not as fast as the Maxima (slight turbo lag), but for a $600 ecu upgrade, it will be faster. That's about the cost of the GReddy Exhaust. You think the Maxima has torque steer. Anyway, check out the classified section for the few goodies.
It's been a wonderful learning experience here on the forum and I will drop in from time to time to see if the aftermarket companies are beginning/continuing to take care of you. Have a happy holidays. Take Care.

looks cool in the commercials anyway.....
I'll never comprehend those that switch cars, especially before payments are finished. But I appreciate how it helps my stock

The only Vw that would make me kiss the max goodbye would be something with more power, and more luxury, and of course...faster. So, VW Phaeton W-12, but then again Id buy an S8 with that doughski....You didnt take a step down, its more like a step over to a compact.

well sometimes you just need a change. i know when i traded in my max for the titan it was because my need for a truck out wayed the want for a car. the car was awesome but i cant haul anything in it, or even get to work on some days.

I think Chernmax was trying to say that European cars look more in place on military installations since we bring them back from overseas assignments. Also, saving on average $2000 by going through Military Sales is another reason. For the record, VW does not honor military/diplomatic discounts. I know Volvo, Saab, and BMW-Mini do to name a few though.

because things change, like my new job and living arrangements, i had a much bigger need for a truck rather than a car. i had my 04 max for 9 months before i traded it in. i pay less a month and my ins is down over $600. so getting rid of it helped my bank account out alot.

Test drove the '06 GLI this past weekend before buying my '06 SL. It was definitely a fun car to drive and would have been a tough decision between the two had it not been for the extra room in the SL. I'm 6'3" and the fit in the GLI was tight even with the seat all the way back. Not to mention I have a toddler and the car seat wouldn't have fit well in the back with my seat like that.
Take care...Contrary to what is written above, VW has come a long way and the GLI is a beautiful car.

My friend has a 2003 GLI, sick car, wouldn't trade it in for a 6th Gen Maxima though. He wrecked it 2 weeks ago. Get this they only made 500 of them in 2003 lolol. Now there is 499 left lolol.

I have owned over 14 cars in the last 10 years since I have been driving. Many were from both sides of the spectrum. The make I have owned the most is VW; 3 now to be exact (03 Jetta GL 1.8t, 02 Passat GLX, 06 GLI). IMO it's hard to compare the two countries. They are two different distinct styles, for now anyway. It seems more and more that they are reverse-engineering each other. On the same note, the GLI doesn't compare to the Maxima. The closest comparison would be the Passat.
