Not to start a fight, but is street racing a buddy or going by the butt dyno really the best way to find out the effectiveness of mods or their gains? That just doesn't seem like a sound way of testing for gains.
How about some before and after dyno runs or some 1/4 mile time slips? If memory serves me right, Maxmale got some dynoed gains from his bolt-ons before and after tuning, and apparently its not even tuned right yet.

I dont know how to of the exact same cars floored at the exact same time is not effective.
and warren, saturday is good, if you know of any good spots let me know, because though i always just race someone on ocean parkway, its not to bright lol.

Sorry, I didn't realize that this was a FNF discussion. I still think there are too many external factors when you use a street race to determine the gains, but I won't get into it since I'm sure all of you here can "stretch me 8 cars", whatever floats your boat.

There is a lot of variability in those results, therefore a dyno to show what is really going on is useful. And no, you don't have to do it for every little 10 hp mod, but if and when you think you're ready to see how the car is reacting to the mods or like you said, for AF tuning, a dyno definitely couldn't hurt.

December 19, 2005 -- A driver was killed yesterday when his vehicle flipped over several times on the Grand Central Parkway and crashed into a tree, police said.
Kevan Sinanan, 23, of Queens, suffered severe head injuries when he lost control of a 2001 Nissan Maxima shortly after 1:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Cops said Sinanan and two friends were traveling west near 188th Street when the accident occurred.
According to the victim's brother, Ryan, Sinanan and his friends were returning from a club on Long Island.
At Sinanan's family home, Ryan, 25, choked back tears as he talked about his younger brother and wrestled with his sudden death.
He said Sinanan was "an excellent" driver, and had trouble believing his brother was behind the wheel.
Sinanan, a basketball-loving computer student, was described by family as a giving man who would do anything for his family.
"He was very generous," Ryan said. "I can't believe he's dead. I definitely will miss him."
The Nissan's rear passenger was ejected from the car and sustained head and leg injuries.
He was listed in stable condition at Booth Memorial Hospital. The front passenger suffered leg injuries and was listed in stable condition at Mary Immaculate.
Ryan said his brother graduated from York College with an associate's degree, and was studying computer science at the New Horizons Computer Center in Queens.
Sinanan's girlfriend, Melissa Feliciano, described him as a very "goal-oriented" guy.
"He was one of the most beautiful persons I've ever known," Feliciano said. "I couldn't have had a better boyfriend."

both cars were auto and you had ypipe and berk intake and he was stock.
what type of test was it ?
things to consider:
driver weight: is he lighter than you, if so how much ?
wheels/tires: do either of you have aftermarket, if so what size and how much do the combos weigh ?
car weight: do you have big stereo system, was another person in your car ?
gasoline: were both of you running the same octane rating, did you have a full tank of gas to his 1/8th for example ? lol
just food for thought

I have se automatic 5 speed, 18 inch rims, he has sl automatic 5 speed, 17 inch rims...the rims were the major weight difference, but still mods shoulda put me somewhat ahead IMO.
Get AAA, or keep a can of tire flat. They do that in certain lightweight edition cars. How many times have u really used a spare tire in ur life? Once for me in 26+ years of driving. Im really close to removing it. I certainly removed it when I time trialed it last year.
