Question on Stock air inlet

Can our factory air inlet be widened to flow more air? It looks like I can cut mine open and make it twice as wide.

yeha and suck up water,

they way its designed is to inhale everything, water and air. So if u actually look at it it has water collection catchers and also intake muffler ducts. The waves inside the duct actually are supposed to muffle the sound while the hanging boxes in it, are used to catch water.

I reviewed it seriously when i was installing my Injen, my unlce even tool a look at it and confirmed that mercedes has been using this type of technology since the 60's.

NAIGHN!!!!

I say leave it, ur stock air filter can come apart if it gets wet by water and then paper particles will enter ze engine and kabloey. NAIGHN!!!

Get an aftermarket intake

You could just cut a giant hole in the box under the filter. That makes it louder, because engine noise comes back out through the air intake, but could add some power without risk of getting water on the filter. You lose any advantage from having the air "pushed" into the intake while driving.

It is amazing how much room there is to work under the hood when you remove all of those boxes and plastic pieces for the stock intake.
