In theory, iwanaMax is correct.
But, practically speaking, I go with what NismoMax80 and Chernmax said.
A 'panic' situation overrides any 'life of bulb' considerations. Also, the panic mode is not normally used that often.
In 20 months, I have never had my Maxima in panic mode a single time (I avoid noise and flashing lights unless safety or security is threatened). But I am always switching my lights from high beam to low beam (many thousands of times in 20 months), and am always making lots of trips where I park and turn off the lights maybe a dozen times within an hour or two as I complete my shopping and dining rounds. Even for things as simple as checking the post office box or getting a newspaper from a newsbox, I turn off everything and lock the car.
As with Chernmax, I have not had a single bulb blow yet.

My passenger side foglamp went out last week. Still trying to find the bulb. Per Nissan, it is a 'Nissan' bulb and they will replace it under warranty. However (And this is usually the case, the bulb is on backorder). So Now I am trying to figure out what the bulb number is and where I can get it. I am going to go to another Nissan dealership and see if they can replace the bulb for me.

Honestly, I don't understand the root question... even if the panic button does make your HIDs more likely to blow... why is this a problem? How often do you use your panic button? I think I've hit mine like once by accident in the 30-ish months I've had my max. Oh, and I've used it a few time to find my car in a crowded parking lot But that's it. It's not like this is a feature most people use on a daily basis.

Check the sticky

Or the manual, the bulb is a 55 Watt H3.

I've activated that stupid panic feature at least a dozen times by accident. Either from squatting down to do something and my keys are in my pocket pressing the button or from trying to unlock a door and the keys on the key ring ever-so-lightly press that damn thing.
Knowing my luck, I'll probably get mugged or carjacked one day and won't be able to find that button to save my life.

A more common way of causing a problem to your HID system is to turn the lights on rather than "auto" at night. This causes the lights to flicker once when you move the **** to the auto possition, then off again, then back on. Its bad for bulbs, and ballasts. BUT with that being said, its like that in nearly every Nissan i've owned. The panic thing is true...but that feature is worthless IMO anyhow.

Yes it is a PITA to change the bulb.

I still get the curious onlooker who thinks he has the right to come up and palm my windows to look at the skyview... Lets say Ive used my panic button a few times. Do know what it is about our cars but the horn is loud & the panic seems to be twice as loud.. You'd be amazed how high people jump... Try it!

Don't worry about the HID bulbs if they're anything like the 2k3's. I've driven my 2k3 148,000 miles and still have the original OEM HID's. Not sure of the lifetime, but it's gotta be a very, very long time.

iwana: whatever u do ... avoid what Nate does!! .. that is the main reason people ignore "panic" alarms
2.5 yrs, 60 K (kM - 40M) and Hids are ok.. only nissan bulbs that are bad are teh DRL's and driving in the US, u do not have to worry abt. those!
