might sound weird, but my car is tooooo low!

i just got my ksports installed and the front looks dope!

the back looks realllllly nice too... when its PARKED

i need to raise the back some, but i am afraid about the strength of the aluminum housing on the bottom of the coilover.

right now, i have about a good 3 inches inside the housing.

i was wondering how much higher i can raise it without needing to worry if the housing would snap with only so little inside of it.

right now its so low, if i go around a curve over 35mph, u can hear the tire rub.

AND THIS IS WITH MY STOCK WHEELS

any ideas???

If you have coilovers, can't you dial them UP???

I have a front 4" clearance (Eibach and RedLineMax front bumper)...

Wow, your rear wheel is inside the well.

I like your original lowered rear...

IMO, Your current view looks like you have passengers and a lot of stuff in the trunk...

My mechanic said he couldnt go much higher or the shock would fall outa the bottom mount. He said the only way he can think of now is to put a bunch of preload on the springs but this will cause it to ride like crap. Im trying to get this resolved by this friday because theres a drag strip meet but it may not happen unless Ksport can help us out.

I want the drop to be even, this is not by choice.

yeah, u can turn em up... the problem is... the bottom that mounts behind the rotor can be turned up or down to raise or lower. what im worried about is, if i spin it down all the way (this would raise the car), that the aluminum housing might not be strong enough to support the shaft.

kinda like sticking a pencil inside of a straw. the more pencil you have in the straw, the stronger the straw is and vice versa.

heres an example

lowered
-------------------------
///////////////////// l
-------------------------

or

raised
-------------------------
///////// l
-------------------------

diagram on top just looks stronger.

I believe tech has the ksport coilovers with 22's. He should be able to chime in and let you know what he did. Good luck!

Mike,
My car is buried with 20's and I can take curves at 2-3 times that speed with no rubbing what so ever. I also made sure my car was level the 2nd time I had them installed (correctly). The back is more tucked but the car is level. I love the look as it sits now. I'd like to see pics to see how low they went with yours. Mine is pretty much as low as it gets. I know Tek raised his a bit to accomodate his 22"s hopefully he'll chime in soon to help.

Here's a recent pic:

Its not going to look right at that ride height, even with your wheels on. Something is wrong here, Im just still unsure what it is.

What did you guys do with the orange hat? It didnt exactly sit right under the stock mount so we couldnt use it, it could possibly be the wrong size but I dont think that would make that big of a difference in the ride height.

so i am guessing you guy's already have adjusted the ride height and are still stuck that low? it looks good but i feel sorry for your mud flaps and y-pipe's if you have them.

Yes, the ride height has already been adjusted. Im removing the mudflaps soon, it will look better without them anyways. Im not too worried about my stock y pipe, it will eventually be replaced along with the upper manifolds.

Wow, that does look lower than mine. My wheel is a 20 and you can see the edge of the rim still. On yours the edge of the rim looks closer to the fender than mine and it's an 18. Something does seem weird. Wish I knew more about them to offer better advice...
One thing I do know is that mine was set higher than it is now, he had me come look at it before he tightened it all up and I had him lower it a bit to level the car out. So for that fact alone I know theres' room for adjustment!! Good luck guys!!

U ran into the same thing as me. The orange hat didn't fit under the stock mount. We placed it there at first, but then there wasn't enough clearance to screw the nuts on the studs.

We called ksport, and they were talking about grinding it down to fit.

We didn't do that.

So they just said not to use it and that the spring would still sit nicely as long as the spring was turned up tightly against the stock top mount.

I cleaned my car today and I'm starting to adjust to the look, but the car is still just way too low. I went over a small speed bump and it felt like it was gonna snap my mudflaps off. Ugghhh what a feeling...

I can imagine, Im not driving my car until I get this resolved. Jsmith, did your installer end up putting preload on the springs? I remember you commenting that the rear was REAL stiff. Right now thats not really the problem with me but my installer said he can raise it, but only by adding preload. People in the Ksport thread say not to because of how it will ride but it may be the only way to get the desired drop in the rear.

Uhhh...................

Those maxes look like they were pulled out of the compactor.....

How come no one bought TEINS yet? Tein has pics of lowered Maxis on their coilovers and they look perfect.

Peace,

Kamski

Because you can't control dampening with the basics, plus I got these for half the price of the teins.

No preload on the springs. I made that clear but he already knew not too. Hope you guys can get this resolved...

Im not talking about the front, we got it the way I want it and it has no preload. The rear is the only ones I may have to have preload on the springs.

But did u say in the ksport thread a while back that the rear of your car felt much stiffer than the front? If so then its probably because he had to preload the springs. Just trying to make sure im not the only one whos having to do this with them.

I agree and disagree with you. Granted they're cars are sitting a bit low in the back, I think mine while really low looks good. My installer took the time to make sure the entire car was level on not raked in the back. Looks better, handles better. Now looking at your Magnum (no offense) but I've seen a lot of them around here and with just the right lowering those cars look insane. It looks like your is sitting to high and looks akward, to me anyways. This is a pic of my friend that I work with's Magnum . I think it sits perfect, not too low but not 4x4 either.

Again all my personal opinion!!!

There was another member here that had alot of problems with the Ksports - utlimately led to him selling his ride. I'm staying away from these and if I have to go with them I will try the Teins...

That was maxima-ghost, who I bought them from. This problem will be fixed, im not sweatin it. I know if it comes to it il just preload the springs and live with it being a lil rough in the rear. For now Ksport is looking into the problem and possibly getting us parts that will work better so I wont have to do that.

I agree, that Magnum does sit nice... but those are the operative words... Not AWD. I may sit an extra inch higher because of the AWD, but I can beat any RWD Magnum around Lake Tahoe during a blizzard, not that your friend would dare bring his Mag out to play in the snow. My car also doesn't emit a loud and embarassing "BRAAAAP" from tire rub when backing out of parking spaces, and I don't crawl up and down driveways and speed bumps either. I simply mash through them. Besides, coilovers for the AWD are just becoming available....I'm waiting til more of them come out besides the KW V2's. Best of both worlds.

Function over form I always say. But if you can't see the top of your tire and rim....? that's just really bad form, and some function should be sacrificed if necessary.
