Short Throw Shifter (STS) problem solved!!!
I have been in touch with someone regarding the short throw shifter problem for 6 speed maximas and I took my car there for measurements. Some 6th gen maximas have a 67 mm shift linkage and some have 55 mm linkage. The theory is that 2004 models have 67 mm and Nissan shortened the shifter thereafter -2005-2006 models. The mystery man I have been in touch with will design a STS for the 55mm models. The question is how do u know if urs is 67mm or 55mm. The answer lies in the color of the pivoting arm on the car. I took a pic of each to show u the difference. The dark grayish arm in the first pic is a 55mm arm, and the gold colored arm is a 67 mm arm. The arms are centered in the pic and have cylinder shaped ***** on them
If you have a 6 speed Maxima, please let me know which pivot arm you have - 55mm or 67 mm based on the pics. Mystery man wants to know of there is a demand for STS for 55mm equiped cars.

Awesome!
Way to be on point Deus! I have an 06 and i was bummed when I heard that the original STS didn't fit (and dismayed that Nissan had alread shortened the throw, I still think it is a bit longish). I am so in as soon as the revised STS is completed.
I will let you know which arm I have. I will look in tomorrow.

Mystery man told me 2-3 weeks. Ill keep everyone posted. Interesting to note that the Alti SE-R is the same as ours. Im going to assume, all Alti and MAxima 6 speeds from 2005-2006 have 55mm shifter.
Kam: I asked extensively regarding shortening the shaft. It would be prohibitive to do so. If u removed the reverse lock out, then u probably could do it. Any way u slice it, its gonna be tough.

I found an easy way to shorten the shifter by half an inch, which makes more of a difference than you would imagine. I have an Evo MR shift **** which is shorter than the stock ****. What I did was cut the top part of the reverse lock out off with a hack saw and sanded the top smooth. That top is about half an inch high, or so. Then I threaded my **** so it sits lower on the shaft. It looks waaaaaaay better and it shortens the throw slightly, and noticably.

The sts is just about finished...just waiting on a bracket to bring the shift pattern back to stock and fix the angle on the cable....Should be within the next 2 weeks i hope. I have the STS on the car now without the bracket for cable...and its works great....ill let everyone know ASAP when its done
