Chrome roof trim on national backorder?

Dealer ordered 2 sets, said both arrived damaged or bent. Now they are telling me the roof trim that will replace my badly faded ones are on national backorder with no estimated time of arrival. What gives?

I had mine replaced within 1 month of buying the car.

since they were replaced

I had the same problem when I bought mine back in September of 04. Luckily, they weren't on backorder then and I got mine replaced within a week.

I need to get mine replaced before my warranty is up. They aren't peeling but the top section is a lot more dull than the rear.

I sure hope backorder translates to "we're tired of re-replacing this trim, so we're making a better quality replacement." yeah right

on my 3rd set. even when the 05's were new on the lot, I saw every single one was already faded.

Mne isn't faded either... must be the red car that keeps it shiny.

EDIT: I bought my 2004 in September of 2003, which I think was built near the beginning of that month. So, mine is also a fairly early 2004. I wonder if that has something to do with it, especially if all of the 2005's that NismoMax80 saw were already faded?

Did you guys just go to your dealer for this or did you call Nissan first?

The dealer where I bought the car is a long way away from me and I wonder if this is somehting that I could just have any Nissan dealer do withough getting too much hassle.

I'm in the same situation (40 miles each way), unfortunitely, you will probably have to call for an appointment so they can see the problem and agree that it must be replaced, then they will have to order the parts and they will call you when parts are received and to schedule an install date.

On a side note, make sure you note the condition of your windshield, on several Org members rides this replacement has resulted in the dealer cracking the front windshield if not done correctly. Just a heads up that you heard it here first...

I had mine replaced within a week of buying mine. I didn't notice it but the chrome was shot the day I bought it. No problems since I had it replaced over a year ago.

I was at the dealer recently and walked the lot while waiting for more repairs to be made to my max. Each and every maxima on the used lot had seriously fading chrome. The difference between the roof and window trims was between a dull nickel finish and a nice and shiny mirror finish. It was really sad to see that all the cars on the lot have this issue. I did get to check out the new versa. I too will be joining the waiting list for the trim pieces.

Anybody have any luck getting it replaced for free after the warranty was expired? Mine started peeling a few weeks after the bumper to bumper ran out.

Well, 70 miles one way to the closest dealer over here. I had to go down there and have them take the info on the car. They will not order them over the phone, have to write up a order tag first. I believe the fix time is about 1 hour. Cant believe both ordered sets came in damaged. Have no idea when they will finally get me a set in that is not damaged since the backorder. I know this dealer sucks and will not call when the parts come in so I have to call them and remind them about the parts. Out of all the dealers I have dealt with.....Nissan is the worst. I do understand they make no money on warranty work.....so they hate doing it. Weird thing is the rear window chrome trim is perfect, roof is dull grey, totally faded. Wonder if humidity in Mississippi had anything to do with it?

OMFG............ its going to cost me $220.00 to get my chrome stripes replaced.
They are $80.00 each + $60.00 for labor.

They are only under warranty for the 1st year of the car or 12,000 miles, which ever comes first...

Thats bullcrap..... How easy are those things to install????

Has anyone taken the strips off themselves? I was wondering how they come off. I want to skip the dealer and paint mine. Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand what is going on here. I just went out and checked my roof strips (as well as every trim piece on the car), and my 'chrome' roof strips are so shiny I can see my reflection in them well enough to shave. They match the other chrome on the car exactly. And I bought my car over two years ago.

This may have something to do with always having my car garaged when at home (which is most of the time, as I am retired), and always trying to park in shade when away from home. I am also never near any heavy industrial area or large smokestacks spewing chemicals.

But it seems clear that Nissan has a problem with these roof strips. A person should not have to keep his Maxima in a garage every day. I am somewhat disappointed that a part that has given trouble for three years could be on national back order at this point. Nissan must recognize there comes a time to face reality and bite the bullet.

I feel very fortunate; a few dealer adjustments under warranty early on, then nothing but a few oil changes in the last 20 months. And I absolutely love the way this car drives.

i would not attempt this yourself. dealers have cracked some widshields during this install. there are a lot of clips and you'll liekly bend your strips removing them.

I don't think i'll miss em, if they cost 95$ each to install.

Any1 know if they are a plastic or is it real metal?

Think i'd replace mine for real chromed metal/aluminum

I heard other people getting this done under the bumper to bumper well past the 1200, maybe different dealers treat it differently?

I am waiting on mine to come in as well. I am also getting the front grill replaced all for free under warranty. The clear coat is bubbling on the front grill. The dealer was plenty aware of the chrome strips but the grill they looked and and agreed that it shouldnt do what is was under wear and tear.
