Hey guys.

Hey guys I just have a quick question for you all. Im on the 5th gen forum and have an 03 Max. ALOT of us are experiencing oil burning both in the 02 and 03's. So I was wondering if the 04+ VQ is burning as well? Thanks alot.

Does the thread title really matter?

Well I guess then Nissan must have changed a few things from 03-04 with the VQ maybe not so cheap rings and what not. Dammit...

No, thread titles don't matter at all. In fact I think the mods should change ALL of the thread titles to "Hey guys". That would make the forums a pleasure to visit.

I have had minor oil burning issues with my 04 Max as follows:

- Before 3,750 miles (first oil change) she burned about 1 Qt.
- Before 7,500 miles (second oil change) she burned a little less than 1 Qt.
- I changed to synthetic motor oil at the second change and the VQ would burn about 1/2 Qt between each oil change (done every 7,500 miles).
- Somewhere about 35 K miles or so, the oil burning declined to about 1/4 Qt between oil changes (still done every 7,500 miles).
- I have burned no oil at all since my last change at 45 K miles, but then I have not taken any long road trips -- which is where I believe most of the oil is consumed in my Max.

Not noticable in the first 22 months with my '04 SL. The lowest I ever saw the dipstick reading was down about a fourth quart just after a long road trip, and right at oil change time (i.e., 3750 miles since it was exactly full). I use dino oil.

My '00 SE is usually down even less than a fourth quart at oil change time. I'm still using dino oil it it.

I wonder what happened with the '02s and '03s? Could too many '02/'03 drivers be racing their Maximas? Or did the 'uppage' in HP with the '03s and '03s enter into this?

This site should not only keep track of your total number of posts here. But also keep track of the total number of dumb posts.

If you beat on the engine before its broken in it will usually start burning oil, especially reving it up high alot.

I have 17K on my 05 and just did a 2000 miles trip at a good pace. Still not a drop. If they are 100% sure they are not loosing oil, then I suspect they had an improper break-in.
