CVT on 05 Maxima SL

alright... went to the dealer today to get a transmission oil service... called me back and said i have a CVT trans... and don't need to change the oil till 100k km. that i have a different oil in there.

service manager told me that some maxs have them.
and i don;t think they can make a mistake like that, because the trans looks different from the others. unless they look exactly the same.

is there a way to tell for myself?

history... ordered car aug 04. got it dec 04 brand new

color: majestic blue
year. 05
mdl: SL

navi, fully loaded.

i can't be the only one in ont, canada... there must be more.

The SM has CVT up his butt. That would be a "no, you do not have CT".

Seriously...
Conventional Auto
  • When you accelerate hard from a dead stop, engine revs rise steadily to near readline followed by a drop in revs at each gear change (repeating for each gear change).
  • Manual gate selects 5 ratios.

CVT
  • When you accelerate hard from a stop revs jump almost immediately to 5000+ and car accelerates with little or no change in RPM.
  • Manual gate selects 6 ratios.
  • On the '07 CVTs at least, the tranny dipstick is capped off with a warning to have the CVT fluid checked/changed by a Nissan dealer only.

Since I seriously doubt you have a CVT in an '05, the SM just may be an ****.

driver - We know for certain that *NO* CVTs were in installed in Maximas sold in the U.S. before the 2007 model. I would be rather surprised if any were put in Canadian Maximas before the 2007 model.

jcalabria tells above exactly how to determine if your '05 has a CVT. Again, I will be more than very surprised if you have a CVT.

For future repair needs... drive right past that stealership and find one that knows what end of the car the engine is in. That SM is a

I have a 2000 I30 (no CVT) and a 2003 Murano (Has CVT)

When you first drive a CVT it seems very odd and it is very clear that it is totally different.

Unless this is your first car, you would have know right away if you have a CVT or not!
