Power lumbar not working and Nissan is acting shady

So 6 months ago, I go in for the power lumbar switch recall and they switch out the switch for my power lumbar in my 2004 maxima. After that, I started having problems with it, it didnt work properly all the time. Now it doesnt work at all and I took it in to nissan today. They said they need more time with it now because they cant figure out whats wrong with it and they want to take the seat apart. I am wondering if this will be covered under my extended warranty and they said that they dont know until they get in there. So if Its not, I am left with a bill for about 4 damn hours of labor and the part that needs to be replaced which is BULLS***. They also told me that my drive belt is starting to crack and this part IS covered under my warranty, yet they say they will not cover it until it fails. So they expect me to break down on the road somewhere, then tow it to the dealership and then get it fixed. Such a$$h**les. Has anyone had this issue with their power lumbar? If so, What was the problem? And was it covered under warranty for you?

killah - If the problems did not start until after the recall work was done, there is no way you should have to pay one red cent. I'm afraid I don't have your tolerance. I would have been back to the dealer as soon as it failed the first time.

Be polite. Be firm. But be persistent. Tell your service manager this problem never happened until they did the warranty work, and they can argue with Nissan as to who will pay. But you must insist the problem be fixed, and that you owe absolutely nothing for whatever either the dealer or Nissan has done wrong.

Well the actual repair they did when I got the recall fixed was to the Power Lumbar Switch, so they are saying that it is something else that is the problem. Possibly the motor that operates the lumbar, so in this case, the warranty for the repair of the recall would not even apply to this new fix because it was unrelated. I wont know more until tomorrow, Ill let you know how I make out. Thanks for the feedback

I had the motor assembly replaced about 2 months ago. My lumbar would just stop working. They did the harness recall at the same time. All covered by warranty.

For the motor, what warranty was it covered under for you? original 3 year/36000 or extended warranty?

Just talked to Nissan, they said that the internal motor of the lumbar has to be replaced, and the entire backrest of the seat has to be replaced and it is not covered under warranty.....they said the part alone is $1500!!! and now I am not going to get it done and I still have to pay for the diagnostic labor which is like $300!!!!!!! What the hell......I cant believe this BULL

UPDATE: So now I get off the phone with the dealer, they said they have good news and bad news. Good news is that it is now working for some reason but there is no telling when it will fail again, the bad news is that they are charging me $210 for the diagnostic labor. I have made a case with Nissan n.a. and will wait to see what they have to say before I pick up my car tomorrow or Thursday. This is rediculous guys

What sort of extended warranty did you get? You'd think it would cover exactly this sort of issue.

Is it specifically excluded in the warranty? Like brakes, tires, wipers, etc....?

How many miles do you have on it? (Didnt see it mentioned) If you have extended warrenty, should have to pay anything. Like lightonthehill said, be firm with them. And if that doesnt work, start acting a damn fool. I accidently broke the bungee cord in the glove compartment and they replaced it for free. Dont let them screw you.

Extended warranties normally exclude 'expected wear' items such as tires, wiper blades, brake pads, etc. They should NEVER exclude things that are not 'expected wear' items.

If your extended warranty excludes things like power window motors, power door locks, power seat equipment, etc, then it is a worthless warranty, and worse than any I have ever seen.

I mean, what the heck DOES it cover? The engine, transmission, etc, are already covered under the FIVE year basic Nissan power train warranty.

It is good that this is not happening to me. I am normally rather reserved, and believe in diplomacy and negotiation as the best approach to problems. But, in this situation, I'm afraid I would make the 11 PM news headlines: 'Local Service Manager beaten to a pulp on Main Street in broad daylight'.
