What type of Brake Pads do you have? Need Suggestions!
Need new brake pads for the Max, might get new Rotors also. Just wondering which Brake Pads everyones using and how they are (durability, noise, stopping power, etc.)
My top two choices so far were to either go with the Hawk HPS Pads or Axxis.
Anyone have a better suggestion or tell me why I might not want to get either?

Question for those doing 6th Gen brake pad replacement. Do the OEM front brakes have the pad shims or not? Do the aftermarket pads have the shims? Reason I'm asking is that I have a persistent squeek from new front OEM pads without shims. They were just replaced before I bought the car. I noticed the rear pads have shims and have no noise problems with them.

I have the Axxis/PBR Ultimate pads from the GD. I put them on in Sept. of last year and still running strong.
Here's the thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=396095
Zinc plated RTP Cross drilled, slotted rotors, front and rear $200
Axxis/PBR Ultimate pads $100 F/R
F/R techna-FIT Stainless steel brake lines $85
$385, not bad for a full setup...

JSmith, you got any squeak, and how much do you drive, and also...do alot of high speed breaking or not? And the part that says Nissan on it, how'd you get that done?
Hammer...hit me on the PM with a price, only if both are new...

No squeaks ever. I drive 50 miles a day at least...yes I would say a ot of high speed braking as I tend to drive like a tard most of the time!
Those are decals, I painted the stock calipers and ordered the stickers through a link on this site, I'll have to track it down again...

My Axxis Deluxe are squeaking since day 2, I was having some heavy noise with OEM in the morning, just when rotors were cold, so I decided to replace them prematurely, now with the Axxis, the noise was gone.
BUT I'm really getting tired of the annoying noise, I always replace Pads long before they need to be replace (First one at 15,000) so I still have my OEM in there and I have been thinking on putting back them. Still don't know what to do.

STAY AWAY FROM AXXIS CERAMIC-PRO, I've had them for about 18k miles. They have good stopping power but the squeal at low speeds ,25 is ridiculous. I'm going back to OEM next week. BTW OEM pads are made by Akebono, but you won't find them in on-line part stores under Akebono. Apparently they make the pads for Nissan/Infiniti models as Nissan OEM. Just like Boge/sachs makes the struts. But you will never find the struts sold as such. Hope this helps.

I'm looking at buying a used 2004 Max. What should I look for when inspecting the car?
I have already test driven it and there is no vibration when braking, even at highway speeds (perhaps in the meantime, but who knows down the road).
Would replacing the pads/rotors be a good idea to prevent the common problems?

Brakes
Shimmys at around 40-60mph
CVT boots
Thudding from front left/right when going over bumps (struts)
Leaks in the trunk
Proper functionality of all center console buttons
ALL fluid levels
and that's all that I could think of
