high milage 6th gen...

i am going to be picking up a 6th gen assuming its inspection at the nissan dealer goes ok, its a 2k4, navigation, hid's, sunroof, elite package, and a 6 speed manual, but the car has 83k miles on it

it dosnt bother me as i plan on driving this thing to the ground, and id say i got a pretty good deal on it.

anyway i was just wondering if theres any major maintiance that i should make sure was done, or anything big coming up at 85k, 90, 100, ect.

Thanks

Chris.

major tune up should have been done at 60K. the 90k interval isnt as major.

How much warantee is left on the car?
What shape is it in?
How much repairs have been done to it already
if repairs were doesn were OEM nissan parts used?
Clutch changed?
if so was Rear main seal changed?
how does the car feel
how does the clutch feel
examine fluid see if they appear old
chcek vin#

just some ideas to find out more in detail about the car.

15k all said and done. its a little more than i would like to pay for one with the milage but the elite package + 6 speed manual + a decent color combo (silver/black leather) makes it worth while to me. the car has only had one owner, clean title, no accidents according to carfax and the owner.

seems to have a pretty earlie build date to 04/17/2003 NICB Vehicle manufactured
and shipped to original dealer

car appears to be in good shape, especially for its milage. i dont beleive any of the factory warrentee is left but im not sure on the terms for it.

the car has not had any major problems just your regular oil changes, and it has had all the recalls done (not sure what they are but he says they were done)

fluids will be changed as soon as i get it as i do with any used car i purchase.

is the rear main seal a problem with the 6th gens?

15,120 after tax's, documentation fee's all the little things that add up when you buy a used car.

edmunds says the car should be worth about 17.5 to a private party 15.7 for a dealer trade and thats with the condition of the car listed as fair.

Really? KBB said my car was only worth around 15k trade in or less and it is almost fully loaded 6 speed.

Not that I know off, but I'm thinking about high milage 4th gens that might need, or usually do need a rear main seal change.

15K when after all is said and done. . . thats a good price. I didnt know the 6th depreciate that fast, but thats an excellent price for all the milage. if only there was some warantee left but if its been treated well all its life and you stay on top of it. It should coast right into 300k pretty nicely.

dude 15k after taxes is waaaaay cheap, this is a more realistic figure, at least around my area, (SOCAL). average is $21,569 and thats just for 04 models, including non elite. so ill say can you get me another one for that price ill pay for shipping.

My 04 SL w/ 4sp auto and 36K miles is bringing 17K on a trade for a 2007 BMW 328i. My black on black Max has no nav but preferred drivers package and sunroof. I hated to trade her but a recent ABS problem, weak paint, chipping wheels, flaking grill and non-fixable shimmy finally did her in. My 97 had no problems compared to the 04. I believe the quality has slipped in recent years. Engines and trans are still bullet proof, but paint and components suck. I enjoyed my three years here, learned alot. Dennis

My car has 66,000 miles on it- Excellent Cond, Driver Preferred Package, No Navigation, SE

$19,835 Suggested Retail Price
$14,650 Trade-In

The trade in is the one I really look at because thats probably how I will dispose of it.

Care to elaborate on your recent ABS problem you had? My actuator failed and I had to strongarm the dealer into fixing the $1400 part for free, what a headache.

Well, it seems that you are getting a steal. But then again, the car does have higher mileage. I will be getting rid of mine soon and hope to get $19K for it. 04 SE, DPP, 10.5" dropdown video, alarm/remote start, 44K. I'm going to see what they'll give me on a trade-in but, I'm pretty sure they won't give me my $19K.

Anyway, I'd take it as long as it wasn't in an accident. You can replace/fix some of the minor stuff with the money you're saving on the car.

Three years and 6 posts, I wish we had learned more from you. Enjoy your B-Mer.

As to the value of our cars...I am shocked how much they depreciate. I was always told to buy a Japanese cause American cars depreciate much quicker. If over the period of 2 years my $30K max is worth around $18-$20 then we have been all raped....especially with all the damn problems I've had.

i sold m 2004 for 13,500 with 72k on it...it had driv pref. package...newer tires but lots and lots of chips in the front, i mean i would have it repainted if i bought it. it looked bad because of all the chips. otherwise it was great...no major probs...just could tell that the struts would need replacement soon....and it was getting a little slip in the tranny at that mileage. i didnt want to risk driving it anymore, thats about my limit for miles on a car i own.

72k to me is nothing, i drove my 2000 altima until 160000, and no problems what so ever, that thing felt like new, and drove like new. cars are not disposable items you know, although car manufaturers may want you to think otherwise, that way youll keep coming back every two years.

I'd say you are getting a good deal at $15k. I wouldn't think they could sell it for much more with that mileage. I have over 115k miles on my 06 SE 6spd, and I am sure I couldn't get 13k at trade in.

Good Luck!

It seems like there are a few people here that are looking to get out of their Max. That does not give me a good feeling. My wife and I are about 10 months into owning our 05, almost 45K, what should we be looking for as far as repairs?

First off....Colts=9-1!!!!!!!!!! lol, had to say that
Go Bears!!!!!!!

Repairs.....depending on the problems that you have/will occur, some main things that may go bad are....

rotors
front struts
passenger foglight burning out
sidewalls on the RSA tires cracking
check your cv boots
check all your fluid levels
could get a trans flush for 119.95 i believe...not exactly needed but better 120 now then hundreds or maybe more later

And that's all that I could think of right now...just because I stated all of those things, doesn't mean that they will happen to your Max, just a few things that people that experienced.

Just keep up with your oil changes and don't beat on er' too much and you'll be fine!

Bates,

I love this car. I know that there are a lot of folks looking to turn them for something else.

I also know there are a lot of folks that will keep these cars until the wheels fall off!

I have an 05 SL. I look at the retail value of the car, and yes, it can be very depressing....Until you realize that you are keeping it, so what does it matter?

For me, I finally realized that by turning cars often, all I'm doing is burying myself. That and I am allowing dealerships to rape my wallet (please pardon the graphic description).

Enjoy your car. They are a blast to own!

RE: ABS failure.

My right rear wheel sensor failed. Sounded like something was loose in the front, like a rotor guard. Finally the ABS light came on.
Until then only the brake light was on. When the ABS light came on, the noise stopped. Dealer diagnosed it as a brake sensor. When I got it back, they had replaced the actuator too. Not sure if it was their fault or a bad part. Anyway, no problems with the dealer, still under warranty. They said the job would be 1400 if not under warranty.
P.S. the BMW 328I is awesome. Torque comes in at 2750 rpm which makes it feel faster than it probably is. Workmanship is perfect.
