Hmmm….that could have been a big problem in the old days. Remember when you drove home a little too late at night and didn’t want to wake your parents? So to keep things quiet and stealthy, you’d turn off the car’s engine (and lights) a few houses away from yours, and let your car’s momentum carry you the rest of way. Although the engine wasn’t running, you’d still need your full steering (and brakes) to roll into the driveway and park the car.
I hope some poor teenager doesn’t pull that trick in his parent’s new Maxima. If that wheel locked after he turned off the engine, I could only imagine the damage it could cause. Not a happy thought

Next time you go to the car wash watch how they set up your car to go through the the machine .. What gear is it in ? Is engine off or on ?

Let's say you're on the expressway and the oil light or engine overtemperature light comes on or something goes wrong with the throttle and the engine runs away. The way you deal with that is to turn the engine off, without going to lock so you can coast and steer to the shoulder. If the steering locks up, life could get very exciting.
