another question about HID

Hey guys whats up.

I have the very basic 05 SE and it didn't come with HIDs of course, like many of us here it seems. So I've been kind of gaining interest in an HID kit lately. I was looking at some of Philip's kits, but I dont know which one to get. they have different kinds such as for cars that have 9005s, 9006s, H11, and all those halogen codes. now I know my halogens are 9012, but there is no such option. I'm also trying to stay as close as possible to a 4300K kind of light.

So i guess my question is which kit will fit our cars? Do we have to get a Bi-Xenon kit? and what brands are out there that are good quality and offer a good price?

Thanks

you can get single beam or can get bi-xeon to have both low-high beam. just depends on what you prefer.

Ok...after cruising through the forums for the last month and a half, I finally decided to join the forum and infamous discussion on HID light conversion for all of us who have the "regular" lights.

The SE's have the 9012 lights. I understand the only HID lights that will fit are the 9006 HID with the kit. It sounds easy and looks pretty decent. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=467732 I'm kinda worried about the beam pattern cuz i get flashed often by passing cars with my halogens. These have what ur looking for and I keep getting directed here http://plasmagarage.com/XenonHIDconversionKit.html

I also found a kit with the projector replacement, but I'm not sure how that will fit with the light assembly: http://www.hidplanet.com/package.html

THEN there are these rebased bulbs that have the base of the 9006, meaning plug and play (just swap bulbs) Sounds too good to be true to me and with my luck i would probably melt something, but these lights would be an easy fix. http://hidexpert.com/

I don't know which route I will take, but this should help.

I actually bought the kit from maxbest and was very dsipleased with the kit overall. As a matter of fact I gave them to a neighbor of mine because his bulbs matched the maxima. I am not saying anything bad about the seller other than that I spent $300 on some lights that I just gave away.
BUT
I have purchased two kits from a seller from ebay and the service and lights look great and they are a true plug and play. Very easy to install and a no brainer as far as price and customer service goes. I have no connection with this seller but his kits are nice. I had the 8k kit for my wrx and the 6k kit for my maxima. I will tell you that the higher the "k" the less visibility you have. I could easiily tell the difference between the 6k and 8k. I have recently sold the wrx for an is300 and if I bought another kit I would go with the 4300k or 5k just because the lexus are a blessing at night.
Not sure if any of this helps but do not worry about the plug and play kits they work great and if you desire pics I do not mind.

It has been a year and half and no problems yet. I debated going the oem ballast and bulbs and the wiring but with the price and ease of operation, I am glad I went with the plug and play.

Cool. I found a McCulloch 5000K kit at www.xenonking.com for $430, but they're for H4/9003, 9004, and 9007. This is for the Bi-Xenon kit which I want. I also found this kit on ebay for $245.99 for the 9006 kit (which i understand is what fits the Maxima), but it doesn't specify if it's a bi-xenon kit or not. Are all 9006 kits Bi-Xenons?

Also any one find a cheaper place?

Thanks

Thats probably the cheapest kit I've found....and I think McCulloch may be a better buy/quality. I'm stuck between the ones at plasmagarage.com and the mcculloch.

btw any ideas on where to mount the ballasts? Also are you going to match the foglights as well with some new h3's? I think i'm going to go w/ these http://www.luminicstitaniumwhite.com...iumWhiteH3.asp

When you remove the bumper you will have a clean section of steel to mount the ballast. The steel I am talking about is the "actual" bumper, there is a clean section just below the headlight towards the middle of the car. If I can remember it is not that far from headlight, maybe only 3" from the actual headlight. As mentioned in prior post I have had no problems yet. We do not get much rain or any snow in Austin but what rain we do get it usually floods and still no problems with the ballast being mounted directly behind the fiberglass bumper.

It floods when it rains here because they do not have storm drains. The rain either collects in low spots in the road or routed to a man-made "drainage pond". If anyone was curious.

I think I've seen someone some where mount the ballast directly on the headlight assembly from the bottom. Probably just used sticky pads.

About the fog lights, I'm not sure if I'll put xenons on. If I do I'll put a 3000k kit to maintain a yellow light and purpose.

Bixenon HIDS BLOW. my dad has them in his pathfinder. the hids with halogen bulbs ontop? they are garbage. BIXENON projectors are what you want. the Glare shield flips up by a lil magnet. and the same lwo beam hid bulb is now your high beam also. I put them in my bmw lights in my 94 maxima. each headlight has 2 lights in it. a high beam, and a low beam projector. but i switched a bixenon projecter into it. and i use the stock high beams as a light used to flash oncoming traffic. that is what the newest bmw's and merc's have. So bixenon projector retrofit is your best bet. Then get hids.

I considered getting true bixenon projectors, but how difficult would it be to switch the projectors out of my halogen projector housings? I know these might fit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E...64472963QQrdZ1 , but is changing an easy process? Thanks for the insight.

I have a pair of those exact ones. but i put a custom bulb mount since I use h7 HIDS from my old headlights. I dont know how hard it is to do to your car. i have a 94 maxima and i cut apart BMW e36 Depo's and installed these ones. and my h7 6000k hids. u need to buy the projectors and a pair of shrouds ( the silver par tthat goes around them hiding the screws and stuff). then from there its all up to you and your imagination. In order to get the bixenon shutter or flap to work. you need to wire a constant 12 volt set up to work for the high beam. otherwards when u turn your highbeams on. the shutter will go up. but the bulbs will turn off since they are powered by your low beams. Here is a link to the thread i started for putting projectors in the stock 94 gxe headlight. It has pictures and of the light outoutput. keep in mind its 1 headlight. :-p

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=502783

In the middle of this next page/link you'll see pictures of my e36 headlights with 6000k hids.

I've been using a McCulloch 6k kit on my Sentra for the last 3 years, with no problems (knock on wood). I've been very impressed with the light ouput as it truly is amazing. This was a single beam and I sacrificed the hi-beam, so I bought the "Bi-xenon" McCulloch 6.5k kit for my I30. It looks great, and better output than stock, as our 9004 bulbs really didn't cut it. That being said, the metal shield that moves for the hi-beam actually inhibits light output. I'm happy with both kits but the single beam does have wider light output as it has no metail shields around it, without being a glare issue. Both kits have held up up with extreme climates here in the northeast with mildly hot summers and pretty cold winters in the past. In my experience, as you go higher than 5/6k, the trade of is true light output as stated earlier.

Yeah I kinda figured that. I use my fogs all the time because the halos are pointed to high. I would hate to change the lights and not be able to see well. But Mcculloch sounds good, however I think I will stay away from changing the projectors.

Yeah please post pics, if u can. I'm not quite understanding the difference between bixenon HID and bixenon projector

could this be what you're talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hella...spagenameZWDVW

Also, how easy is that to install. I', looking for something thats more of a plug and play sorta thing cuz they're pretty easy to install. I dont wanna have to take the whole headlight assembly apart.

What is the difference between HID Projectors vs. a Halogen Projector.
Many Newer car claim that they use halogen lights, and the the projector lens make it look as if it is a HID setup? am i right?

I've also read that HID Kits do not come with HID projectors and they only enable you to use an hid light bulb in your car. and u might have to buy the project seperatly.

Also, there was a write ups stating that all HID Kits are not worth the money because they dont work (effective) as well as some of the HIDs that come stock on the new Lexus cars. Any truth to that?

My question is: could i just purchase a halogen projector for my stock halogen lights, instead of using a HID Kit? Will my light output be effected. I want the HID look, but i dont want HID kit cons.

so is there any real problems with just getting Low beam hids, besides not having high beam hids? So im guessing that there are two bulbs in there, one for the low beams that ill change to 6k bulbs, and one for the high beams that i will leave alone. besides that, is there any other disadv. to not going bi-xenon or getting new projectors??

No there is only one bulb in the assembly. It provides both low and high beams. When in low mode there is a shutter that blocks off part of the beam. When you switch to high the shutter comes up and allows the full brightness.

6th Gen Maximas come stock with single bulb projectors. The difference is in the bulb base. The conversions for our cars are all projector conversions since that is all there is. It just depends on if you want to change out the whole projector so that you can use a standard HID bulb instead of having to buy converted ones. I've been researching this for awhile. I haven't done it yet, but I'm confident of what I am saying.

so if there is only one bulb for low and hi, why would you need to buy a bi xenon kit? just get a reg hid kit and the shutter should direct the light up when you want hiigh beams? what am i missing?

Nothing at all. I bought a single bulb kit, installed it, I have HID highs and lows. I think the mis-information about needing a bi-xenon kit is being spread by the newbs and those who have never looked at a 6th gen headlight assembly.

canadianmofo, can you elaborate. this is what i have always thought. on my civic, i did a dhid swap from 2003 tl and it only worked on low beam mode.

I actually had this very same question it was between buying oem hid headlights or taking a chance with an hid kit, just didn't know which one to get. I feel like I just learned something.

The Civic likely uses a dual filament bulb like a 9007. In that case you would need a bi-xenon bulb so you would keep high and low beams. Not sure if the TL uses a bi-xenon assembly or not. Likely it was a wiring issue if there was a shutter assembly in the TL projector.

Regardless, the 6th Gen Maxima's 9012 bulb is a single filament bulb, only requiring a single HID kit to get both high and low beam HID goodness.

I have a 2004 max and am interested in converting to hids. So if I order a single beam kit I can still have both high and low beams?
