KYB shocks/struts

Can someone please provide feedback experience for KYB shocks/struts.
I can only find GR2 available in their catalog. Is AGX available yet?
I'll be riding on stock springs. The only experience I have is non-adjustable
Tokicos on my 4th gen and the ride is a little harsher but the performance
is improved. Tokico vs. KYB GR2 vs. KYB AGX?

They only make GR2's for Maxima. The ride is harsher, but not anything to complain about. The benefits of control outweigh the harshness anyways.

I'm very happy with mine and personally think they are better all around than the AGX for most people.

Nietzsche,

How much harsher would you say? 10%, 20%,...? Noticable, Very noticable?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that it's at least 20% if not 25%. And unless you have extremely crappy roads then you won't really feel it that much on smooth roads untill you hit them twisties!

I have GR-2's all around with Progress springs and it is GREAT!!

I can't complain about the ride with the GR2's either. Rides fine. I drove my mother home from the hospital after she had a knee replacement...she commented on how smooth the ride was.

The improved performance is well worth any tradeoff in ride quality. In fact it rode smoother than my 2 year old OEM struts.

Nobody will complain about GR-2 untill you hit the roads in NY. Then, it gets rough.

You could complain about the roads in NY without the GR2's

That is incorrect, KYB has no part numbers for the Maxima besides the GR2's. Using a shock from a different car will void any warranty.

Until you hit a big hole it's really not noticable and you would feel it hard on stock shocks anyway so I find the point moot.

True, but with the stiff combo of progress springs/KYB shocks/struts the effect is much amplified. I know it because i have this setup on my car. Are there any positive sides to the upgrade, of course! MANY and that is why I keep it that way.

Aftermarket struts/shocks have been known to lower the car slightly.

I drive frequently on NYC roads and my 4th gen with Tokicos and H&R springs
is very harsh. Even with 215-60-15 tires, the ride is harsh. Again, it's all about trade off. My 4th gen handles much
tighter than my 6th gen. However, at times I enjoy the softer ride comfort of
the 6th gen as my butt ages. But at this point, I prefer better handling.
No Tokicos for 6th gen?

Like I said just because it fits doesn't mean it's for it. KYB has NO part number for the Maxima outside of the GR2 line.

Explain? I don't see how that's possible especially since shocks want to fully extend.

I know but one rarely changes one without the other. I did a similiar upgrade to KYB struts and Eibach springs and it lowered it big time. I wouldn't mind an inch lower on my Max but not much more.

People that I have read about(and some that I know personally) have installed the KYB AGXs or Koni's and they are known to lower the car slightly. Not sure what you want me to explain but I'm sure we can ask Active Tuning if that's true or not.

Apparently, there are people that change one without the other. Seems to work for BlackMax well. Most do and will recommend either eibach with KYB or Progress with KYB combo. I have the later and recommend it.

Ok biatches.
Anyway, I was thinking of changing the struts myself and
use the labor money towards a compressor and air tools.
The back looks easy, but the front involves compressing
the springs. Anyone performed this job before?

I did it in my driveway without air tools. If you have air tools it should be a breeze and you can take the struts to a shop to have the springs compressed. I did it the old fashioned way with a hand compressor.

Just wanted to mention that AJUSA offers 8% off their internet price for full set of KYB. Got mine for $293 and change. All 4 struts/shocks, 4 mounts, and rear bellows. Out of stock on front bellows. Free shipping and no tax (excl. CA). I hope I didn't overpay. Found some videos and write-ups on front replacement. Maybe someone can point me to info on rear replacement. And what is the deal with alignment of front struts? The info a bit confusing.

Check the stickys for replacement info. Doesnt seem like you overpaid if the 293 your refering to is in Canadian dollars. here in the us Shock struts alone are 170 plus another 80 for mounts.
