I am not really familiar with the alaskan weather and how well they clean roads, but I would definately grab some snow tires. Even if the roads are clear, the compound itself is more 'geared' towards colder temps.

Additionally, if they salt alot some rubber undercoating on exposed metal under the car can't hurt.

 

They use gravel/rocks as an alternative to salt......so get a big black bumper cover!

 

You did not say where in Alaska you may be headed. There are fairly wide temperature differences there depending on the exact location.

Assuming you are headed to one of the colder locations in Alaska, the first thing I would do would be to install an engine block heater. This device (when plugged in to electricity) keeps the oil in your engine warm. Using this, you should have no problem using 5W30 weight motor oil (synthetic would be better if you have at least 10 to 15 K miles on your Max).

Dude i live in Alaska (for now) and i live in the interior (Fairbanks)....if you are going there you will most likely want to do all the stuff up here because they are used to setting every single car up with it....the put heaters on you oil tank, battery, and somewhere else i forget now....but they will have a plug that comes out of the front end and you have to plug in your car during the winter time. You should buy your tires before comming up here and an auto start...because everything in alaska is crazy expensive especially tires

If your going to Anchorage or that area you will be fine...most the cars dont even have the plug ins....it does snow a lot more so again snow tires would help alot

Also, yes get a grill/hood cover for your car because it is too cold here to use salt on the road so the only thing they use is little rocks...and it chips up the paint like a ****....im gonna have to get a new paint job when i leave this horrid place....
