iPod integration kit

just wanted to some input from people who have done it

i'm a 6th gen owner that wants to have an ipod wired to my car. i've tried fm transmitter and have used tape for a yr. and i really am sick of it. i noticed online that most online vendors sell the AAI-NIS kit for around $200. there is a component out there that is from pxni that sells for around $80. i was wondering if anyone has ever used that and if so, does it display the songdata from the ipod on the display

anyone want to weigh in?

The only adapter that displays song information is from Nissan.

not just yet babyboy but i definetly am because it's a step up compared to tape adapter (which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than fm transmitter)
it seems that i'm gonna buy everything through my dealership and it will run me around $350 + tax
the thing that kills me is this aai-nis which selling wholesale for around $225 and installation being $100
when i get it installed i'll let you know

i'm paying 250 for the aai-nis component that connects to the radio as well as 100 for installation which is why it's running me 350

wholesale the aai-nis is not going for below 200 so if you're getting the whole thing done for 225 total, let me know where you're having this done burtino
cause i'd definetly pay that

I JUST HAD THE IPOD INTEGRATION FROM USA SPEC PA11-NIS PUT IN TODAY.IT ALLOWS FOR DUAL CONTROL.FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND FROM THE IPOD ITSELF.IT WORKS GREAT AND IT ONLY COST 225 WITH INSTALL.I LIVE IN UPSTATE NY.I HAD IT DONE IN ALBANY NEW YORK AT AUDIO OBSESSIONS.HIGH QUALITY WORK.I ALSO HAD A CAR STARTER PUT IN AS WELL.THE ONLY DOWNFALL WAS THAT IT DOESN'T DISPLAY THE SONG INFO ON THE SCREEN.I'M NOT SURE BUT I THINK THAT MIGHT JUST BE OLDER CARS THOUGH.

yea i know it's alot of money, but after having tape for so long, it's worth it just to be able to manage it from radio controls

however....

i'm told by dealership and other members that it does display metadata on your screen

THE POINT IS, I HAVE A TON OF MUSIC ON MY IPOD,I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I KNOW THE ARTISTS AND THE SONGS AND DON'T TO READ IT TO KNOW WHAT'S PLAYING.AND IF I REALLY NEED TO SEE I JUST LOOK DOWN.I HAVE A BOSE SYSTEM AND I DON'T WANT AN AFTERMARKET STEREO BUT THAT'S JUST ME.EVERYBODIES DIFFERENT. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISION

i went to my dealership yesterday to make arrangements
they're going to get back to me on a price today
if it sounds like it's worth it, i'll do it
but i'm really doing my hw on this and talking to PAC audio first to get specifics before i lay down some coin

UPDATE-figured i'd update for people who wanted to get this in the future
i called PAC-audio, the manufacturer of the integration kit for nissan/infiinit

according to them, all this thing does is act as an auxillary connection between ipod and stereo, no steering wheel controls, no metadata display on screen

so it's totally not worth the $350, looks like it's back to tape adapter
=(

http://www.usaspec.com/ipod.html this is the link to the usa spec website
this is what was used in my 04 maxima with the bose system.

JUST GOOGLE (PA11-NIS) AND YOU'LL FIND LOTS OF INFO FOR IT.
MORE INFO ON THIS SITE ALSO
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=701

I SUGGEST HOOKING IT UP IN DIRECTMODE.IT'S JUST MORE FUNCTIONAL AN EASIER TO OPERATE. HERE IS THE LINK TO THE OWNERS MANUAL

Does anyone have a link for Nissan's OEM iPod Interface kit? I couldn't find it on their web site.

For those with this kit installed, how are the menu navigations? Scrolling through artists? Do the menus save where you leave off at? Or do you have to go Music > Artists > Nirvana > All to get back to where you were each time? Thanks!

I saw someone mention in the rims thread that the 07's have some kind of iPod integration that comes standard? Can anyone clarify this? The only thing I saw and was told by the dealer is that there is an AUX input jack.

i'm pretty sure that if there were any integration kit, it wouldn't come standard, just another add on feature. and since this is still a sixth gen. i'm pretty sure that your dealership would install the same AAI-NIS component from pac that the others would use.

i've looked into the component that burtinos mentioned in this thread and as good as that one is, i'm going to stick with tape so i don't lose access to cd changer

if you want anymore info about this man, hit me up, i've done my hw on this topic

A simple AUX jack is standard. The wire sticking out of the middle of the dash bothers me more than no ipod control. Wish they had hidden the jack somewhere.

There is a Nissan OEM iPod adaptor that includes ipod control from the HU or wheel controls. Same unit should work for most 6th Gen Bose HUs with SAT capability. If you are going to install yourself, be sure you verify compatibility and get the right harness - there are a few depending on your configuration.

If I decide to add one to my '07, I would definitely go with the Nissan OEM unit just for the display and extended playlist access from the head unit. That said, I have been extremely happy with my USASpec PA11 that I have in my Volvo S60 T5. It's essentially the same unit that Burtinos has but customized for the Volvo HU. Functionality appears to be identical. If the Nissan unit was not compatible with your HU or the price was too steep, the PA11 is good alternative. I paid $119 at Crutchfield and installed myself in less than 1/2 hour in the Volvo. Connection couldn't be simpler - overall difficulty depends on how easily you can get to the back of the HU.

the nissan unit is compatible with my car jcalabria, it's just that when i spoke to the manufacturer of the unit, they said that it does not allow for control of ipod through stereo controls, that's why i'm skeptical of putting my money down on something i'm not completely satisfied with

if you have any additonal info about this topic, i would appreciate it

what the unit allows you to do is this.
I CAN USE THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS TO GO FORWARD A SONG OR BACKWARD.
IT ALLOWS YOU TO FAST FORWARD OR REWIND FROM THE DASH STEREO
IT ALLOWS YOU TO PAUSE FROM THE DASH
IT ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE IPOD THE SAME WAY YOU WOULD NORMALLY USE IT
I USE MY IPOD ON SHUFFLE FOR THE MOST PART SO FOR ME ALL I NEED IS SKIP FORWARD OR BACKWARD,I TAKE THE IPOD AND GO TO THE PLAYLIST I WANT AND THEN USE THE STEERING WHEEL TO GO FORWARD OR BACKWARD
I'M NOT QUITE SURE ABOUT LOSING FUNCTIONALITY OF THE CD CHANGER I THINK I CAN STILL USE MY CDS BUT WITH AN IPOD WHY WOULD SOMEONE NEED CDS? GOOD LUCK FELLAS HOPE IT HELPS

Are you sure your dealer isn't trying to sell you an aftermarket AUX adaptor and telling you its a Nissan unit?

The Nissan branded OEM iPod adaptor gives full control from all accounts I've read.

Sorry to repeat my question but never got any input from someone with the adapter. Not that it really matters, because it looks like this is my only option. Just curious to see how it works. Thanks!

okay, i'm back to tape adapter for the time being

i've gone through a lot of these in order to determine which is the best one

so far i've tried

1) Sony
2) Acurian
3) Nexxian
3) Avaratec
4) Maxxel
5) Belkin

out of all of these, belkin is by far the best one because it gives you the best sound quality and little to no grinding noise coming out of the tape deck. in the even that it ever becomes defective, just mail it to belkin and they'll give you a new one

i'm off to drive in my max now, hope this helped

Alright, so I finally got the Nissan adapter installed. Very good sound quality and you can control it via the steering wheel. The only odd part so far is that you cannot "pause" (at least as far as I've played with it so far), but can only mute it.

Overall, not bad for a retrofitted product.

BTW, I've got an 04 with a 855xxx VIN.

what kind of adapter did you install and where did you get it done?
does it display text on screen?

I used the adapter discussed in these two threads:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=506210
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=484034

It can be purchased from (I don't recall which I purchased from):

http://www.mynismo.com/products/?id=2593
or:
http://mynissanparts.com/pc-855-90-ipod-interface.aspx

You don't necessarily need all of the harnesses if you don't also have satellite radio... but if you do have it, be sure to get the extra harness so that you can use both sat radio and the iPod. Also, despite what the web sites say, these do work with (at least some) 2004's, but there is speculation that only after a certain VIN (check one of the above threads for more info).

As far as integration goes, it does display song and artist info and allows you to control the iPod through the steering wheel and radio. You can select sonds by artist, album, genre, etc. The only thing that doesn't seem to work correctly is "pause" - for me it only mutes the iPod so that the song continues to play, but won't be heard through the speakers. I guess this isn't a big deal, but it a little annoying.

I had intended to install this myself, but because it's been really cold & snowing each weekend for a while now (and due to other problems), I had the dealer do it when I last brought my car in for scheduled maintenance. I know I paid too much to have it done, but it was the only way it was going to get done in the near future. They had actually installed the iPod gateway in other Maximas so I wasn't the first car that they had done.

Good luck.

I had that issue with my Volvo version of same adaptor, but the fix may not be exactly the same. On the Volvo, the external CD changer port is a large DIN connector with the ground on the outer ring of the plug. The plug had some oxidation on it when I got it from USA-Spec. It was OK for about a week, then the whine started. I pulled everything apart to investigate and realized that the whine went away when I wiggled the connector. I pulled it out and noticed the oxidation on the ring... rubbed it down with some 600 grit sandpaper, cleaned it with alchohol and have not had the problem return since (well over a year).

I think the Nissan is a multipin plastic connector so its not going to be the exact same fix, but I would suspect the ground connection(s) between the HU and the adaptor.
