Wheels- Help Law find the perfect match

Hey guys, its been a while since I've been on here. It seems like this would be a good place to get some ideas for wheels. I love the Nismo 19" wheels for the max, but they're too expensive. Then again, they are lightweight for high performance. What I want is the look, lightweight...not so important.

For me the gun metal is awesome. Here are the 19" Nismos if you havent seen them. * Despite being 19's they appear to very proportional to the wheel well. There isnt huge fender gap, because the tire isnt as low-pro. Also, I'm sure that makes for a smoother ride. For all of you tire and wheel guys out there, could you offer up some suggestions on a wheel that looks similar? I've looked around but can't seem to find the match. My Max is a daily driver and I put on about 60 miles a day. Could I fit a 245-40-19 on a 19 x 8.5 wheel? Again I dont want a low profile tire. Thanks

What about a set of 19" G35C rims. Lightweight plus a somewhat similar spoke design. Usually available off eBay or some of the G35 forums.

BTW that maxima with 19" nismos is lowered on Progress, that is why there isn't a gap. The tires are 255/40/19 Mich.Pilot Sport AS

if the tire/wheel size is what reduces your wheel gap, then you're going to throw off your speedometer by a good bit.. if you go with a bigger rim than stock, you want the tire size to offset that size increase to keep your speedo accurate.

Thats why we went from 245/45/18 to 255/40/19.

I went on tirecalculator.com or w/e that site is and put in these measurement-245/40/19 (recommended tire size for the NISMOs) and 245/45/18 for the stock wheels and with the NISMO set-up the speedometer would be 0.1 mph too slow. So....am I doing something wrong or misunderstanding something?

Probably right.

0.1 MPH slow is not a problem. our spedomeeter are about 3-4 miles fast anyway.

well I always thought that with 19" nismos and 40 profile tires they are just like stock 18s with 45 profile.

According to the calculations you've made it would show the speed slower by .1 MPH which is something nobody would even notice. Since Nissan's speedometer is set to show the speed 3MPH higher and let the warranty expire quicker then it would it would be safe to say (logically) that now it would show 2.9MPH faster then you are actually going.

Example. Your speedometer show 60 when you are actually going around 57-58 MPH. Got It?

it'll also vary more the faster you go... if it's off by 1mph at 30mph, then at 60mph it should be off by 2, etc... not that it's a big deal..

also, Law said something about reducing the wheel gap, which was my main reason for piping up in the first place.

I've checked my speed with a GPS unit. Stock tires 245/45/18, usually 1% lower than indicated on speedometer.

This is what I was saying. the car is going slower then the speedometer shows.

Originaly there was a post that a person was going like 60MPH and he got a ticket and the cop said he was clocked him at 57MPH or something like that. You see, the problem is that if the speedometer is faster by 1-1.5% your warranty will also run out on you that much quicker.

Here is the math, lets assume you have a standard 36,000 mile warranty, and your speedometer is 1.5% faster. You would run out of warranty in 35,480 miles.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Almost instantly after my initial post, I thought, "maybe that max is lowered a bit". In your opinions, do 19's look nice on a lowered max? How much do you think its lowered?

What springs do you use? What size wheels? Now I am considering lowering a bit but dont want to sacrifice the ride quality. The stock 04 max rides low as it is with weight in the back. Has anyone just lowered the front to diminish the gap? What are the pros/cons to just lowering the front end of a FWD vehicle? It seems as the rear is just fine...

I like the way the max looks lowered.

Both of the cars in picture are lowered on Progress Springs with KYB shocks/struts. Ride is a bit rougher but handling and looks are greatly improved.

Here is a thread I did showing how much the car lowers on the Progress. Should be usefull.

from what someone said, the Progress springs are made to work with stock struts.. however, it seems to not be recommended to lower the car and not change the struts..

the progress springs are rated at 1.8" drop in the front, and 0.8" in the back.. at $119+shipping (see Cattman's group buy going on currently) you might as well do all four.

as for 19" rims on our cars, I'm sure they look fine..

what was that about weight in the back? if I remember right, the rear is about 600lbs lighter than the front.

Nice info guys. Appreciate it.

Ritz, Usually 3 people in the back will push the rear of the max down. It seems like it doesnt take a lot of weight to make it happen either as these three people total about 400lbs.

It really grinds my gears that a 19" wheel package costs 2x as much as the same package in 18", 19" seems to cost even more than 20", and 20" is too big for my taste. Thats one of the reasons I stayed stock size an djust went wider.
