Fujita Cold Air Intake Installed!

After hearing all the positive feedback from everyone that has installed the Fujita on their 6th Gens, I decided to get one also. Found a new one on Ebay for $200! I couldn't pass it up. Just installed it (took about 45 minutes)and took the car out for a drive. It is pretty damn loud! The throttle response is better and the car feels like it is pulling harder also. Over all I am pretty happy.

The only negative I noticed is when you really get on it, the noise seems to reverberate throughout the whole engine compartment. Has anyone else noticed this? I am thinking maybe the intake is rubbing up against something in the engine compartment and sending the sound through the frame. I looked at the clearance and it looks good, but who knows how much the engine flexes when you step on it causing the intake to move with it and rub up against something? Maybe this sound is normal? Any help here?

Picture of install complete!

Looks really good. I just got my max and wanted to get one too. Can you hear the intake at normal driving/acceleration, or does it only get noisy at WOT?

it gets noisy at over 3.5K and *****in' loud at over 6k. LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT!

As to the movement, I doubt there is much. I had my girl punch the gas while I was watching it and the engine barely moves. It might be different when driving but I can't stand in front of the car with open hood while driving, now can I? LOL

I will probably wrap it up in some kind of insulator in the summer if I find something that would look acceptable.

No need to remove the headlight. You do need to remove the wheel and splash guard behind it. Easy to do.

If you don't have any problems with the max or got your kinks already worked out put it on, just keep the original box so you can swap it back just in case. Keep in mind that not every dealer will penalize you for it.

It moves alot, search for the Motor Mount Inserts thread..... there is a video there. This would be an ideal time to install the mmi's to prevent engine shifting.

It only gets really loud when you step on it hard and the RPM's rise above 3500. You do not hear it at cruising or highway speeds. inder normal driving you do not notice it. It just sounds a little throatier when the auto transmission shifts down and the RPM's jump.

Install is super easy! Looks are easy on the eyes, and the sound is out of this world! I love my Fujita!!! I would recommend it to anyone even remotely considering doing anything for performance on their 6th gen.

See webaddress in my sig, that'll take you to the site we bought ours from. Look up Ridetuner, he's a great seller and has great feedback! I would buy from him again, and I do have buyer history with him.

Why would a dealer penalize you for this unless they can prove the intake caused the problem? What kind of problems can this intake cause? The only thing that scares me is how low the intake sits in the wheel well. You have to be careful around puddles even though it is protected by the fender guards.

I believe, everything you are experiencing is completely normal. The growl from your engine bay is good. You should hear the noise coming from the engine bay, because that is where the Fujita is. Because I didn't change the exhaust, my only indication from the intake is the noise under the hood.

I noticed in your picture that you had correct installation of the vibration mount. That mount allows some shifting and a bit of movement, so when you jump on it and the engine shifts a little, all is well, it won't rub or snap off anything, like older intakes.

Now go for a brisk ride and put a smile on your face

Because they will look for any reason to get out of doing warranty work on your car. Just keep your original parts. By law, they have to link the stated problem you are having, to your intake. For example, they can't say that you have (made up a problem here) trouble with oil consumption because of an intake. There has to be a direct link to the stated problem and your Fujita.

Hydrolocking would be the only real problem I see with it. BUT....you have to be sinking your car in a pond, not just a puddle. SC had a huge storm roll through here after my husband and I put it on our car. I was driving through an intersection and noticed a small 'river' running into the intersection I needed to go into. I went slowly through the intersection and DIDN'T accelerate, I just coasted. All is well.

You really have to be downright stupid with your car to sink it.
Oh yeah, isn't it 60k miles for the powertrain warranty?

Not penalize you per se. Lots of dealers will use that as an excuse the not honor the warranty/perform service.

True.

When I first intalled it I was scared to death that I am going to kill the engine. I drove with it for 2 months (including rain) and I said thats it, I am removing the damn thing. I started removing it when I noticed that the filter looks brand new. There were no water spot on or around the filter. I figured its pretty safe and left it on. I recommend it to everyone!!! I love to wake the monster up (~6K RPM) and do it quite often. Boy this thing has a pull.

I sell new Sea Ray Boats for a living and my service department loves to do warranty work! Maybe Sea Ray pays a better labor rate for warranty work than Nissan does? We push Sea Ray to cover everything because there is nothing worse than a customer having to pay for something out of pocket that they feel should be covered. Man, the boat industry is so different than the car industry. We are so much more focused on custoemr service at the dealer level.

Thats good to hear Xoomer. Do you get the harmonic reverberating sound when you really step on yours like the CAI is rubbing against something like the frame? Do you have stock motor mounts? Thanks.

or click the picture icon (yellow square that looks like a post card) right above the windows when you reply and paste the link into a new window that opens. If the new window doesn't come up and you get a yellow warning bar right above the page in your browser just right click on it and choose (Temporarily allow pop-ups).

No rubbing here. I still have the stock motor mounts and now that I am thinking I guess there might be some shifting going on as I had the original "bumper" mount go dead on me and Fujita had to send me a new one.

But as to the sound the only thing I hear is the "supersonic boom"

I had a close call with my fujita while going to a large body of water in NJ. I thought that I hydolocked the engine, but it seems like the car went into some sort of protection mode that cut the engine off and then limited power until I changed to my back up filter...all was well after about 3 hours.
Let me also add that it was a really huge mass of water and I was stupid for even attempting to go through it. This intake rocks!!

What would the experienced folks say about combining this mod with the CE style y-pipe? I read that after the y pipe installation it is a good idea to run high test gasoline as not to 'lean out' the engine. Would the added air at a cooler temp have an impact on this?

I don't know if it's the car or the intake but I feel no lose of power in hot humid weather, other cars I owned soon as it got hot I felt like I had something in tow, and I always run 93, don't know if that makes a difference

As i said at the other org....

What you're talking about is Hydrolocking.... You've got to pretty much immerse all of the intake filter in water to cause that kind of problem.

Even if 1/2 of the filter is immersed in water, air will still only enter from the un-immersed top 1/2. So long as there's a way to draw air, your intake will not draw water!

I got mine on ebay as well for $180. I like those offers where you can submit a bid and wait to see if it is taken. My bid was accepted in 2 hours! Makes me think that I could have gone lower. Either way it is a great add on.
